Well, the gearing was changed in the truck, to let a 26,000 gvw truck pull a 12000 pound trailer. On a 190hp 5.9. Yes, they can blow rather easily at that point. To hold 55mph you were above 2200rpm. Do that for 8 hours a day, and you'll easily o through 2 motors a year. I've tried to get my old man to upgrade his fleet, but his upgrade was a crappier 3126 Cat, which is failing already.

Good luck finding one cheap, the 12v P7100 pump is kind of becoming the Hemi of the muscle car era, I have 4 of them. If you can find one for anywhere near a grand it is whipped, or the seller does not have a clue what it is. They run forever if take care of. The engine is designed to be rebuilt several times, being it is used in med duty trucks as well as farm and construction equipment, marine applications, and genset applications.
The rotary pump engines are a little cheaper, and from my experience, just turn in the screw, and add a smaller exhaust housing to the turbo, and it comes alive. The real early ones, 1989 & 1990 pre intercooler are great to play with. No intercooler to mess fabricating in if doing some kind of conversion.

As with anything, if you want to go fast bring $$$, lots of it. The speed at which one travels is directly proportional to the depth of ones pockets

I have a line on a 1990 2 wheel drive dodge diesel with an automatic. It has alot of miles and the body is whopped, but it can be bought and driven home for about $2000. If you would be interested send me a pm.
