Default West Branch Snow Run :: Sat Feb 3rd or 10th ?

I know this is kinda short notice but I got this itch to go wheel in the snow and now I hear Grandman is reporting that we got 12" on the ground at West Branch
Who is up for a little snow wheeling? I know several hilly trails in that area that will give almost any rig a run for it's money given 12" of snow :) Depending on how things are we might have to opt out and take easier trails to avoid this being a winchathon like we had one year

I will volunteer to lead a small group(<dozen) but due to the nature of the trails I'll have to say that least one locker would be mandatory along with good meats and if you have a winch it would be very handy too.

So who is up for going up there next weekend - Saturday February 3?

BTW if anyone wants to propose any other dates that might suit people better speak up. I just had a long 2wd spell and want to go wheeling.

The trail starts off by I75 exit 222. It then runs on a series of hill ridges that go up and down frequently. It also has a few spots where you have to a make a some hard 90 degree turns up a hill from a standing start. And one place where you have to make climb up while tilted off-camber and turning 90 to the right. And there is a nice play area nearby too ;)
I'll see if I can dig up some pictures from previous snow run in that area.

I am guessing this is where we were last year and it took me a while to get up there. And then you go into the gravel pit. Snoblind got tickets in that gravel pit last year, so we've been advised to stay out.

mud tires are the best in deep snow. even then it usually takes a lot of wheel speed. i'd say street tires would have a really tough time with 12" of snow.

Kixx thanks for the info. Good to know about the small gravel pit. Wheeled in it a lot, now I know to stay away from it

I saw this way to late otherwise it would have been a great idea. I have run the truck trails south of West Branch and they are not very challenging. If you are ever looking for a companion up that way post up on 4given4x4\\\\\\\\\\'s trip calender forum I am amember there and check it more often. I have got a 82 Blazer with a diesel and 37 Toyo M/T and lockers :)

Anyhow will another date work better for people? Like say February 10th or something? I am flexible with dates if that means we can get more people to come out.

Yup I remember that :) Double winch line length pulls up those hills can sure take a while

Kixx007, it's not that hill but close. It's on the other side of that "mountain". It's even more challenging then the one you & Built4mud are thinking of. If that hill/turn that Built4mud is talking about forced almost all of us to winch up I am afraid to think how bad that new trail might end up being :tonka: But hey everyone is always complaining that Michigan wheeling is boring, so we'll have to see about that. BTW even without visiting the gravel pit and staying on those legal 2 tracks given enough snow it will be a fun ride.
