Help wanted changing steering column bearing

The bearing at the end of my steering column is shot and I haven't had time to replace it ... it took me a year to finally get glass in my hardtop if that's any indication of how swampped I am.

Would anyone be available to give me a hand and help replace it? I think this is the only way it will actually get done.

BTW, where can I order the bearing? Murray's can't order it and the independent places I talked to won't touch it.

Not sure where you can get a bearing, but I used to rebuild columes at the dealer all the time, I did all the three on the tree ones.

I looked everywhere for this bearing, and ended up buying a new column.

Hacksaw swapped out columns for me in the time it took me to repack a wheel bearing :tonka:

You can get those bearings at Quadratec.com, and I would recomend getting the plastic retainer and the clip too. Together everything wuold be about $20. I did mine when I had my rig apart. The hardest thing is getting the steering shaft off the column shaft. The rest isnt too hard. Get the bearing and stuff, and let me know. I'm in livonia too, if you can drive it over I'll give you a hand gettign it done.

Thanks, Shawn ... I found a place that is selling the bearing, clip, cap and retainer for $12.50. I ordered 2 sets and should have them by the end of next week.

Easiest place would be the Chevy dealer... pic almost any car/truck in the early 80's and it had that column in it...

The bearing itself is about $25 though :/
