Default From the Huron-Manistee National Forests website

I was surfing, and thought I'd share this link. Please note this is a NATIONAL FOREST.

Off-Road Vehicle Information

Dear Off-Road Enthusiast:

Since the new Michigan ORV laws have gone into effect, a lot of people question where they can ride. It's always a good idea to ask ahead of time, if you're not sure!

The Huron-Manistee National Forest, in northern lower Michigan, provide ORV enthusiasts an opportunity to ride off road vehicles on superb forest trails. Following the legal guidelines will ensure the ride is safe and enjoyable.

All National Forest roads are open to street-legal vehicles, unless they are posted closed or blocked with a dirt mound, brush pile, or other type of barrier.

If your ORV is not street-legal, you must ride designated trails only with a valid state ORV tag.

Trails are closed unless posted open.

Most ORV trails are designed for 50" wide vehicles or less.

Some regulations for ORV use differ between federal and state lands in lower Michigan. On the Huron-Manistee, ORVs that are not street-legal, must be registered or licensed by the state. They must be operated ONLY on designated ORV trails.

On National Forest lands, it is illegal for ORV riders to leave the designated trail. A hunter IS NOT permitted to use ORVs to retrieve game or to leave bait. Disabled hunters who have been given state permits to hunt from a standing motor vehicle (car/truck) must discuss their specific needs with a Forest Service ranger on the district they plan to hunt, and secure written approval. No permissions will be given for ORV use for hunting.

Please enjoy your National Forest safely and in a way that protects soil, water, and other resources, while minimizing conflict with other Forest users.
