To be on the safe side, pull the cover and check the c-clips...it'd be nasty to lose an axle....

check the simple things, exhuast, schocks, trac-bar bushings, sway-bar links (if there is a rear sway bar, I'm not to sure)

My guess is you will find something from the above list at fault, I highly doubt your axle is rattling around.

ok i was just in the process of changing my rear shocks and i noticed whats making the noise. its either the track bar or sway bar(the bar that goes from one side of the axle to the other), the bracket on the axle is broken off near the top so one side of the bar is just sitting there. so my question is, if i just left it how it is or took it off altogether, would it be ok to drive? keep in mind this is my daily driver. what are my options here?

Cut it out of there.

My roomate's bushings went out up front, so we took out the bar, then when he replaced the bushings up front, we took out the rear one because that was becoming loud also.

Anyways, he couldn't tell a difference with it or without it on there.. On the otherhand, if you need to make a sudden move going 23084473 mph, it might effect it.

Not very many people running track bars/sway bars with YJ's.
