Default St Helen

Hi everyone. My grandfater has a cabin up near grayling and St Helen is not that far away from him. I see in the Michigan ORV book that there is places to dirt bike up there, but my question is, is there places to use the jeep up there? The only place I go down here is the mounds, and that gets kinda old after awhile.

Yes there are alot of 2tracks and there is also a big Scramble area there too.

http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/spatialda...rv/sthelen.pdf

there is a map of the motorsports area. The trails you see are for atv/dirt bikes. I hope this helps.

So if I'm reading this correctly, and please tell me if I'm not, we can use the ORV Route with the jeeps.

if it is a mixed trafic trail with atv's motorcycles and snowmobiles, along with trucks. usually these are just seasonal roads.

THere is a ton of places in Grayling to take a Jeep(us to live in Kalkaska west of Grayling) YOu can run the Camp Grayling Tank trails. THey go on for miles and it is easy to get lost so take a compass or GPS and at least one other vehical along. but there is alot of wheeling up there..

The St Helen ORV area has a bunch of 2 tracks. It also has a couple sand bowls that have some fun hills to play on. And they are all legal.

Yeah, would like to know if the tank trails are legal also. I was always told that the tank trails were not legal to drive on, but that was many years ago and things might have changed

I asked Grandman about this, since he lives in the area. This is the PM he sent:

Yes they are for real . I think if you go into Grayling and turn E where 72 heads W that will lead you out past some military vehicles setting on your L side . there is a jeep and other things there . Just past that you can make a L and head in on the trails the tanks run . They are wide , becareful of the water holes they can be deep . Yes there legal to run . You will see some larger sand hill off to the side , those are not legal to be on .

Petec knows that area much better then i do .

Sy helen has a scramble area , ORV sticker required there . Read the signs not all trails in st helen are for jeeps , ORV sticker is only for scramble area .

I hydro'd there. It might be a good idea to check stuff before you go plunging into it.

You don't need a lift or anything done to trail ride in this area. I used to do it all the time with a 2 wheel drive 63 chevy pickup. Just take good walking shoes. I once walked 8 miles out and the exercise was great and got ride of my buzz too. But really I go all the time by myself. You get to see all the wildlife that way. But ya I know every trail blind folded. And I have the best maps of Grayling also. I don't mail or e-mail though, you have to pick them up in person.
