Default Dana 30 stock spline vs 30 spline

So I am going to order a ox locker for my front 30. And I was deciding if I want to go with a stock spline count or up to to a 30 and get new shafts. I would buy front alloy shafts. Now is it worth it? Should I just keep stock cause shafts are dime dozen and I wouldnt be gaining much strenth? I run boggers 35X14.5X15

I think you're going to break stuff no matter what you do. You may not break shafts, but I think you'll break other shit after owning that CJ. You'll have your foot in it all the time. :tonka:

I have a free HPD44 housing available. Come get it and build one like Grandman.

Still better to see what he breaks in the D30 first before he spends a lot of money on it. If he upgrades the spline count, he will be breaking R&Ps and carriers instead of axleshafts.

Toss a used LockRight in it, and see how it holds up.

I dont know what this is in John ? If it is 4.0L power and an auto trans i think the 30 can survive . If its V8 power forget it . Larger then 33" tires will put the hurt on it . Cooter is running a fairly light weight rig , that comes into play as well . My Grand sits at damn near 5,000 lb and the 30 was killing stock shafts 2 or 3 to a run .

44's are going to have the same balljoints, and u-joints. They are a little beefier in the yokes, and obviously 30 spline.

I dunno what I would do... I guess I would price the 30 spline OX and the shaft price difference.

well the ox 30 and 27 spline are the same so its a wash there, I can alloy shafts with u joints and everything for 540, alot cheaper than a swap and should be just as strong right?

Another good option for alittle more strength in the r&p is getting a hp30 from an xj.
