Default Shop Force electric winch - $47 @ Meijer

I just picked up a 6000-lb. electric winch from Meijer for $47 (normally $119), minus my 10% company discount. I bought it to load non-moving vehicles up on my trailer, and don't have huge expectations for it. However, the price was right, and for trailer use, I thought it would be ideal.

It's on sale through Saturday of this week. I just thought I'd give a heads-up.

Craig hates questions that are asked without proper punctuation.

Yes, I work in the Meijer office (Seasonal Toys buying desk, not automotive). I haven't used it yet; I just got through reading the directions, pulling all the stuff out of the box, etc.

It can be temporarily hooked up to a 12V battery (includes plug w/jumpers), or it can be permanently wired to the vehicle. It specifies 2000-lb straight pulling, or 6000-lb "pulling capacity for rolling stock". I'll just carry a loose 12V battery with me when needed, and weld up a quick-mount bracket for my trailer sometime over the winter.

Those winches are barely able to pull anything, if they are the ones I think they are.

Pessimist. For the $42 I spent on it, I figured it was worth a try. I also talked with the Buyer for Automotive to pick his brain about how I was intending on using it, and he said it should do fine for what I'm using it for.

Would I expect it to work offroad for wheeling? Not really.

I bought one of those last year for around the same price to mount on the trailer. I think I shoved it onto a shelf in the barn and forgot about it. Would have come in handy when we picked up my winter beater XJ that didn't run at the time.

We have two of these at the tree farm connected to our Christmas Tree bailers.
They have no problem pulling an 8ft wide by 10ft tall Blue Spruce through the bailler into an 18inch diameter net for bundling. The line speed is slow, but with Craigs motor skills he shouldn't do anything fast anyway ....Just kidding Craig.
They pull a lot of weight for the price.

Hrmmm... I've been thinking of getting a small winch to use for a hardtop hoist in my garage. Thanks for the heads up!
