Default 42re/aw4 swap,95zj

So after wasting 2 42re's, an aw4 swap was needed. Read a ton of writeups, none recent, none like mine. But enough data to get in there was found.
Swap is not that hard. From donor xj I took trans, conv, flexplate. Shifter, bezel& cable w/trans bracket. You need cross member & mount, made my xmember.
The handle travel & indicator plate are different than 42re, console mod to make pretty.
Aw4 tv cable snaps into same throttle body bracket.
I used a 242 I had, trans tail/ Tcase mesh can be an issue. ( 1 writeup had a grind for fit solution I did not need to use)
Driveshafts need work. Added 1 3/8 to rear using a pressed & welded sleeve I made, 0 vibes on m15@ 65, sweet!
I did a bypass jumper on neutral switch to get it on the road, wiring ongoing.
Wiring is easy or a pita, depends on how you want to shift. TCM needs about 15 connections to run. I am wiring one in, at present I am button shifting, works great!
Switch shift is a simple 3 wire job, no trans disassembly. Shifts are quick but not at all harsh. Can be put on a aw4 with your choice of tcm or button shift at your discrection. Great for wife driven jeeps.
With 95% of 42re wiring unplugged I got no CEL. Bonus!!
So if you want to swap, go for it. Not mechanically hard, very cool results. I will share what I know, text me. Pics I got.
Thanks to all posters of info on many sites, made it possible.
Crossmember mounting will be different. i welded plates to my "frame"rail, drilled + tapped 4 5/16 holes in each. not a big deal.
So, mount your xmember to trans, jack it up, hole positions become pretty obvious....
weld, drill &tap, all set.
