Default XJ pops out of 4wd...

I have a 96 XJ classic. It has the 4.0 with a 5speed. Sometimes when its in 4hi it will kick out. It doesn't do it in 4lo. Is there a common issue with the linkage to the transfer case??? Or is there something else it may be????

Thanks
Matt

Is the jeep stock? Probably need to adjust the linkage or maybe a worn out bushing where the linkage connects to the tcase.

Very good point fordbronco. My xj is lifted 6.5" the linkage looks stock. Is there a kit for the bushing I can buy or another linkage I can buy for a lifted xj????

Be stupid not to do this kit and be done. Pitch the stock linkage and put in something positive.

You can build that quite a bit cheaper from McMaster Carr, minus the fancy bracket.

I really like the custom linkage but it says it is for an automatic and I have a 5 speed. Will it still work???

If need be, you can go to the hardware store and get a 12" piece of 3/8x24 threaded rod and make up any difference. I think there's room in the linkage for it, but not knowing the length difference would see the extra piece of rod is handy.
