We have the S5's, very happy with them. Awesome screen. Camera is decent. Don't pay $200 for them. I think Costco and amazon have standard pricing around $170, and Verizon has them on sale all the time. We paid $99 for each of ours ($149 - $50 rebate, which we did receive pretty quick in the mail).

I really do like the waterproof part. I always have the phone in the cupholder of the golf cart and this year, its been rained on several times. No problem.

That post about 5 reasons to not buy an S5 is not really that applicable. First, it was posted before they came out, but its geared towards someone who has a decent phone, but likes to upgrade to the latest and greatest thing. If you were coming from an S4 or similar, there isn't that much reason to upgrade.

Thats mostly becoming true across many of the phones. The jumps from the last generation to this one are becoming smaller. Like there isn't much reason to go from say an HTC one to an HTC one M8.

quoted for truth. definitely a much smaller gap lately when "upgrading". my daughter has the s4 (coming from s3) and loves it. my mom also has the s4 and loves it.

it truly comes down to personal preference. how does it feel in your hand? how it look? size (pockets, purse, etc...)? battery life? camera?

They have the regular S4's? Or the mini one? I was looking at the mini one, it's the size of a normal smartphone, but don't know if it would be too small after having an S3.

Battery life is probably #1, followed by processor speed, then camera. Giant screen is nice, but not a deal breaker.

I will be getting the amazon phone when it comes out next month.
Well, I will probably wait for initial reviews.

Keep in mind when you see a mini phone (like a mini S4, for example), they aren't just smaller size, they are slower/worse usually in every way. Not the same guts. Clever marketing to make you think you are getting the same phone in a smaller package.

ALWAYS look at the specs, cheaper phone usually means slower processor.

LG G2 has a 2.26ghz quad core, Droid Maxx has 1.7ghz dual core. That's a big difference.

I'm going to have to get hands on with these to make the final decision, LG is in the lead so far.

I have a LG Optimus Prime on order, but after the Love for The LG G2 in this thread I think I may take it to the AT&T store and trade it out.

fyi, the note 3 has a 2.4ish quad core processor, larger screen, great battery, and one of the best cameras on the market.

not that's it a big deal, but any reason why the OP isn't considering this one?

just thought that might be a great option and maybe they have deals on them.

Maxx user here, I've had it since the release day. I don't think I can switch to any other phone because I average 3-4 hours of talk time, hundreds of texts, stream music ten hours a day, and the battery is still at 40-50% with wifi and gps on at the end of the day.

Wireless charging is also awesome, which is built in.

The Maxx is also very easy to de-bloat, and there is no real reason to root this phone, because of how open the software is to begin with.

I think I paid $499 for my Maxx, now it's free with a 2 year contract. If I had to get a new phone right now, I would go with the maxx again.

edit: here is my battery roll for the last 24 hours

I dont really have any complaints aside from the shitty camera. All my pics seem grainy and washed out.
Did you do the camera software upgrade? It fixed that issue. It's hard to tell the difference between the maxx and my SLR photos while shooting on medium setting.

I have switched to the google camera software. It does some incredible things. Fish eye, panorama, photo sphere. The lens blur function allows you to take incredible up close photos:

Examples from my white desk which is not good for up close photos:

It's a company phone, we used to just go to Verizon and pick out phones, now we go through accounting and they order online. Thank the Apple fanbois at work for that, I guess.
If the phone is going to cost, I need to show a good reason.

understandable. that's part of why I brought it up. since there's a note 4 on the horizon, I wasn't sure if they had some really good deals on the note3.

it does everything you are looking for other than maybe actual size might be an issue.

good luck with your choice.

I went with the HTC One M8 when it first came out as a promo with verizon - I had read that the samsung g5 was having hardware recalls already (Camera related)

the HTC's camera isn't stellar, but it's good enough for what I use it for. it's a large phone, but still fits in my front pocket of a pair of dress slacks, or cargo khaki's easily enough w/out being overly bulgy

but then I'm not a male dancer or hipster so skinny jean's aren't an issue for me.

didn't think I wanted my first smartphone to be so large, but the 1080p large screen and stereo front facing speakers make entertainment on it pretty decent.
