That's just insane.. The fact that over 85% of that TJ was in silt and they recovered it is just crazy !

Been camping in that part of Alaska with some Boy Scouts. The silt is very deceptive as for how solid it is. And the mud is something you have to experience to believe. However, I would love to go wheeling there, I hiked on a glacier, but never driven on one.
Great story with the pics of that.

If i remember right a few rigs were broken/almost lost in the recovery, the guys that went to recover it were flamed a LOT for even trying it. That area is supposed to be dangerous if you dont know where to cross the river etc. There was VERY little salvageable so it was pretty much a waste

John when you click that link on page three, scroll down and click download this file. Its just short vid

Jake if you would of read the thread, they hauled the Jeep home, cleanup the motor, flushed it and it ran....but at the time of that post they still haven't did anything with the TJ.

a few months ago I read both of the 20 some odd page threads one of the initial loss and the other of the recovery... Those said that everything in the jeep was crushed/broken or destroyed  that is the TJ that was sunk in the silt anyway.... ill have to search for them i think i have the recovery vid on my laptop still

Been a while since I read the story but if I remeber right they crossed it earlier in the day, then on the way back out the rivers conditions were worse than when they first crossed, but they still had to cross to get out. Two rigs went across fine but the TJ got swept away.

I love stories like these. Does anyone else have any they have read on a website they could post.

I remember the one about 5 years ago where the YJ and Dodge got stuck on the side of the mountain in Colorado...where they couldn't go down or turn around and go up. That one actually made one of the rags because of Steve Rumore(Avalanche Engineering) and Pat Gremillion(Power Welder) helping with the rescue.

I read another one about 5-6 years ago in JU in the Grand forums, where a guy drove his ZJ down into a bowl area and couldn't drive it back up, becuase the climb was too steep. I believe that was in Virginia or Carolina. He didn't have a winch either. There where other abandoned vehicles down in this thing also. If I remember right, he bought a multimount winch, and front reciever. Installed them on the Jeep down in the bowl and winched his way out. I remember following that one for a week or two, while every thing happened.

They are all good lessons.
