Default 78 F100 has Catalytic convertors??????

I didn't think cats came on trucks until the mid 80's? My 78 F100 I picked up today has cats

It depended on trucks GVW back then, my 78 F150 didn't come with a converter.

Nope - IIRC, the F100 had cats and required unleaded fuel. I remember my father wanting the cheapest new truck he could buy in 1978, and he chose the F150 over the F100 because unleaded gasoline cost more back in the day.

That was the whole reason for the F-150 was to have a high enough GVW to get around emissions regulations.
