Default Old timers...

I have only been interested in politics for the last five years or so.

Have issues always been this polarized? It seems there is no middle ground on many of the big issues. I too, often finding myself on one side of the spectrum.

Yesterdays liberal, think Kennedy was just that, yesterday. Todays Democrats are a whole new breed of deceitful persons willing to do and say anything to win. That includes raising the dead to get votes.

TJJEEP's avatar is Gary Busey. Drew and Mike called him for an interview one time, and Mike asked him something. Busey said "I don't understand your verb". It was fucking hilarious.

It seems there is not any middle ground on issues. People either lean way left or way right. Was it always this way?

No. The big difference is we seem to have lost respect for each other. I am not foolish enough to think that everything was on the up and up before, but people were at least respectful of each other's opinions.

Welcome to the information age. Yes, there were two sides of the fence in the past, but there was never the sounding board that there is now. These days polititions know that fear get votes, and blasting someone gets your name out there. Add to that the deep pockets of special interest groups, and a society that believes what it is told, and you get what you have today.

Prime example is a bunch of us older vets did not buy into the need to go into Iraq. We were called all sorts of things, primarily by the youth crowd, and next thing you know we have a nice little war going on. People have grown to love what they fear, and the polititions love it. Anything that distorts reality is good for business in their book.

Don't get me wrong though, this is still the best place to live, and will remain so. People just need to realize that they control their futures, and take the action necessary to preserve their way of life.

After the left got the AWB in 1994 and got to see it fail, they were voted out.
Their argument is the same, but the media has doubled down in their corner to levels on par with 1939 Germany propaganda. This has the effect of moving the center by the popularly misinformed. So what you see portrayed as the center of political divide now is the old position of the left. And anything right of the new center is portrayed as extremist.

On the other hand vocal, voting Americans have turned the tide on the issues most misshapen by the lefts ideology.
The second amendment is stronger than ever, which means it will be attacked harder. Make no mistake, second amendment rights were all but lost. Now all states have some form of CCW rights. That right there is surprising, but indicative of the greatness of this country.

The culture of foreign appeasement is now exposed and under scrutiny thanks to the eunich president and that bloviating kunt with the reset button. Our country is weakened for the moment.

States rights were reaffirmed with the scotus decision affecting affirmative action.

The election and reelection of Obama has exposed the progressive left for the deceptiCons that they really are. This is the government the founding fathers feared.

That is my take.

Its no longer a republican vs democrat issue. They work together by fighting in public. Behind closed doors they are all friends. It isn't about the topic being discussed as much as it is about what they are hiding (how they are filling their own pockets). As far as I am concerned the vast majority of politicians are crooks and thieves. Party lines are just a front to keep the sheeple distracted.

Between the two you have each party having their own ideas and differences which separate the two. I think that the are trying to gain and win the vote by becoming more like the liberal, something like trying to compete with them.
Then we now have the Tea party and you see Republicans attempting to demonize and make them look like radical extremists.
Since when is supporting the Constitution extreme?

As far as you commenting on them wanting to fill their own pockets, it seems to be very true. They are in it for themselves and how much can they gain.
Sad really when you think about it. We vote them in and they take advantange of the position of authority we put them in. They have forgotten their place and they need to be reminded who really is in charge.

Republicans attack the Tea Party because it represents a viable 3rd party voice.

The dems and repubs have been in power longer than any political parties in American history.

Their only interest now is to remain in power- the most effective way to do so is to label anyone else a wacko.

No, I feel like we have slowly gotten more and more polarized over time.

Instead of giving an inch each way and meeting in the middle, I feel like each side has asked for an extra inch hoping the other side will ask them for that inch back and then they get their way, instead its just been a deadlocked fucking mess.

If everyone on both sides would give an inch or two (and I've said this on multiple issues throughout the years) and comprimise we'd find a much happier medium and a country that could get back on track.

Gun control is one of the issues, libs want you to have zero guns, gun guys want to be able to buy whatever they want with out any sort of background check or information to track guns.

How about you do the background checks, you pass certain safety classes, you get to have your ar-15 but you have to have yearly check ins or something.

Not ideal, but the gun guys jumped all over me for that suggestion a while back (i'm paraphrasing in the essence of time and typing)...but essentially both sides could give a little and we could move on.

No fucking way. It is not the governments business what guns I own. The constitution does not specify anything about type/ quantity or passing an exam. It says I can have weapons to defend myself. I'm not a fan of a full auto ban but I understand it and can live with it. Same with handgun registration. That is where I believe it should stop. If you read what I actually just said, I have already given concessions, and that is where it should stay.

If I am a felon and posses a weapon, I am breaking the law. Don't add more laws to the law abiding citizen.

I never understand the gun control stance, there are 96 other countries where you are more likely to be a victim of homicide than in the US, some of which have gun control policies in place.

Maybe it's because, based on your link, there's 101 countries, including most of that would be considered the "civilized" world where you are less likely to be a victim of homicide, many of which have much more strict gun control policies.
