Default Proposed Silver Lake Voucher

Proposed Silver Lake Voucher
The DNR Manager at Sliver Lake State Park proposed a new online voucher system that they want to put in place at Silver Lake State Park. As part of this they want to charge an additional $10 per voucher on the weekends. This was reviewed at the ORVAW that we attended and it was passed by the group with their support. There was further discussion on the item here: http://www.glfwda.org/showthread.php...9663#post69663

GLFWDAs Position:
The proposed online reservation for vouchers is a great idea but GLFWDA believes that ORV users already pay to support the scramble area with our ORV license fees, which just increased significantly for 2014. We do not believe an additional fee should be charged for the on-line vouchers reservations.

I agree to an extent. However I'd gladly shell out the extra 20 on vouchers rather than spend 3 hrs in line. Besides; if 20 is the difference between going and not going; I probably should find a new hobby

This is great news for the private offroad parks in Michigan.

Is what they want you to pay for are those vouchers that you have get from the shack for a certain time on Saturday morn?
What you would get stamped and punched?

So its only if you want to reserve a voucher?

Is there a limit to how many you can reserve? Are there any measures in place to prevent scalping of vouchers?

I think there's a statute of limitations on the vouchers.

I think the voucher system works well. But charging $10 per voucher is ridiculous.

I vote they reduce the staff in the drive in line...Got your voucher...yup, Drive forward to next guy...Got your park sticker...yup, drive to booth...got your voucher and state park sticker...we'll yes...ok, go in. Let the park manager work on improving staff efficiency rather than thinking of ways to charge more.

The current voucher system works well to an extent.... The thing is though; at least for me, maybe not everyone is that I would rather buy my vouchers online than have to take a day and a half off work- i.e. to get up there thursday night and be inline or ready for the line by 4:30-5:00 by the time everyone is circling the starting point
I don't like more fees anymore than the next guy; it's just another tax in my book. But with my situation, I'd rather buy pay the 10 for them, and be able to work Thurs and Fri; rather than having to be there by 4am on a Friday.

I agree I hate waiting in line for hours to get a voucher, and if the new system works then I would be ok with paying the fee to not wait in line and be stressed out about getting a time slot

Yeah, what if you want to go for the day on saturday? Next to impossible without taking Friday off to go up and get a voucher.

I only live about 45 mins from there and my cabin is only about 40 mins from there. I typically only go once a year due to these issues. I will take a vacation day during the week and drive right in.

Thanks for cross-posting this Oz! I think the idea is a great way to improve the system, but chagrining more fee's is not the answer.

If they charge per voucher I would see a lot more folks trying to get parking lot vouchers so they only pay $10 and then bring in a trailer with Jeep, razor, dirt bikes, etc.

Our ORV fees are already going up $20/yr, can't say I am in support of additional fees on top of that
