I have towed 5000lb Tige RZR almost 2k miles last summer with our rubicon....yes it was over the limit.
The newer Rubicons are nice, not saying they aren't. They have a ton of options, that you pay handsomely for too. The new V6 is WAY better than the old torque pro I6, but still under powered for what it claims to have power wise. Especially after throwing bigger tires and other stuff on it.
I honestly forgot about the electronic sway bar disconnect on those, can say I would love to see it on more vehicles.

I have an 05 4Runner with the 4.7 V8. Stock hp was 270, torque 310 i think for the VVTI engine. Mine has a couple goodies to boost it a little, not that it needs it at all. It's not quite stock but very close and is rated to tow 7000 from factory. Of course people can usually tow more than spec, but you will break something eventually, usually a trans.
Now, the op in question is will an ifs rig like an FJ beat an solid axle like in a jeep in articulation. Stock. Now, yes there are some crazy setups out there, things and tricks you can do, but a stock FJ is no slouch by any means. If you think it is you are just kidding yourself. It is one of the most capable off-road vehicles in the world, and when you get in other countries the FJ, 4Runner and Land Cruiser are used more than anything else. They don't even look at a Jeep. By the way, those 3 Toyota's all have the same suspension and are mostly interchangeable with the 4runner getting the tech before the FJ.
So, my personal 4Runner aside, yes a stock FJ will do anything a stock Jeep will do. Yes, maybe the Rubicon can do better as it already has a ton of goodies on it. You can also get most of those goodies on an FJ from the factory, minus the sway bar disconnect. I have been into off-roading my whole life, always wanted a Jeep. Started selling them as a salesman and was able to drive a bunch of them, not so impressed. Plus a guy over 6' is going to have a hard time getting in them unless you have the full out Grand or Commander. I also sold Toyota's, and since getting mine have found through toyota 4runner forums or on my own just how capable they are. Soccer moms driving street tires don't count. lol

Shessh, a man has to sleep guys! Wow, lots of haters, but that's Michigan for you. Most are posers anyways.
Anyways, my particular 4Runner is not stock anymore. It isn't crazy built or anything like that, it is my daily driver. It is an 05 4Runner Sport Edition with the 4.7 V8. It has a Gibson Cat-Back, K&N filter and a few other minor goodies. I recently put a 3" lift on with Bilstein 5100's. I don't have the money to get the bigger tires yet, so it is on the stock 265/65/17 tires. I am running Hankook Dynapro ATM's currently, and plan on getting the Hankook MT's this summer sometime. Sway bar's are off, stiffer springs so don't really need it. Get a small amount of body roll, but no longer even know the pot holes of Grand Traverse county exist.
Now I'm not going to trash my truck just to prove some of you redneck morons are so close minded you don't know what soap is for, (yes I'm fucking with you, don't get your panties in a wad) but I am up for some good wheeling this year. I work a lot, I own a painting business, but I can usually go out and play on the weekends. I'm not scared to prove that my truck can keep up.

Lol, not my specific name, it was in a review. I would love to have a locker ($1100, ugh) but don't have the funds for that right now. The trac control does a pretty good job surprisingly, but is definitely NOT a replacement.

I'm 6'3" 320 lbs and I have no issues getting in and driving my 93 yj with 5" lift and 35's comfortably, your size argument is invalid.

Dunno how you do it. I'm 6'4 300 and knees are on dash, literally. Can't move around. I've tried several different ones, just didn't work.

My bad, you're right. I did say that. I meant to emphasize more and was distracted. His is the model they made before releasing it officially, it does not have most of the goodies. Just coil Springs instead of leaves. I6, 5sp. He has lifted it 4" but done nothing else besides some 31" mud terrains. Basically a regular Jeep wrangler, gutless and mild offroad performance.

Know any good trails between Petoskey and Traverse city area? I'll come wheel. Most places I knew are closed now.

Not that the jeep is the end all be all, but neither is your 4runner, and you're a Grade A retard.

Not saying either of these vehicles is an end all. Or any other for that matter.
