Our LJ already has 33's with 3.73 gears and its a dog in over drive. Its so bad we flip the OD switch around town. It has me wondering if 56's will get you back to factory gearing ? At the wrangler fourm vuys are going to 4:88's and would like 5:13's but the dana 30 wont allow.
Let us know what you do .

This was a tj right? The lj trans is a whole different animal then a tj or cherokee. The od gear is very steep.

Yeah, it's a real turd in OD and likeI said, it didn't even have enough balls to back up a public boat launch ramp in 4 high. That one really disappointed me.

He said he was going to be done with the buggy by spring (which was last week) so he should have all kinds of time to put gears in. :Teehee:

4.56 is a waste. Take them back get 4.88 or 5.13.
the od ratio is .69. Its still gonna hate hills on the freeway.
4.10 in my rubi on stock tires is dog even.
4.88 minimum!

I had 4.56's in my XJ with 33's and it was decent all around. Not an LJ so IDK.

I've got the 4.56's and a locker sitting at BigB's. Just waiting for him to get some time freed up to install them. I know he has a crazy schedule so not sure when it'll happen. I'm sure sooner than later.

After driving a couple, I never ended up regearing mine. The 4.56 gears in an auto/33 drove nice on the freeway, freeway rpms similar to a stock six speed manual. The 4.88 gears auto/33 would have made towing my camper better (60-62mph), but at 70+ on the freeway I was always looking for another upshift that never happened.

I left mine alone - it was hard on the torque converter pulling the camper from a stop (ate a couple over the years), but on the freeway with or without the camper it was turning 2500-2600 rpms @ 63-65 mph with the OD locked out and was very happy. No one but an over-anal accountant would care, but that was also the sweet spot for fuel mileage as well.
