Default Gun Values

In an offer to trade for my dirt bike I have a guy offering a couple of bolt action rifles. I want to make sure I am not passing up on an opportunity of making more money and thought I might ask the value of these things.

Both are absolutely beautiful rifles.

Value... I dunno. Not too hot of a market for .35 Whelen.

I would consider it a roughly even trade. If you are looking for money, I wouldn't bother. If you are looking to get a similar gun it might be worth it.

I don't know shit about that .35 cartridge though.

That vx3 is about a $750 scope used iirc

The 10/22 isn't exactly an expensive gun, stainless or not. Couple hundred, maybe 250 at best even with the fancy stock. They make about a gazillion aftermarket stocks for those things.

The 35, if he has that much into it, that's because he wanted an odd custom gun and paid someone to do the work, not because it was worth it. He could NEVER sell it for that.

Naw, depends on what VX3 it is. That's a 4.5x14 and they can be had new for about 500...but he doesn't say what MM it is.

Huh, I thought they were more for some reason.

The larger MM ones are a bit more, the 50 MM is around 7 new and the 40 MM is about 5 new. Then they have the long range one and the illuminated one....we don't really know what scope this has on it. Could be anywhere from 500 to 1000 new depending on what model of VX3 it is. There are like a bunch of VX3 models.

The manlicher stock is quite a bit more rare and if it's the original stock it does make it more valuable. I'd value the 10/22 between $400-$500.

35 Whelen is a 30-06 necked up to 35 caliber. It's not an oddball cartridge at all. That gun IMO is with no more than $1500. If it was on a Remington 700 action blueprinted and sitting in a McMillan stock it'd be worth about $2000-2500

35 whelen is a good cartridge, although a bit obscure unless you're looking for 30 06 based rifles

I've never seen one actually sell for more than 350.

$350 for the 10/22, that stock is not rare. If it is, I've seen way too many of them

I would love to own a 35 whelen but that configuration baffles me. To me I would like it because it is a slow moving heavy bullet that would work fantastic as a brush gun. Putting a thumb hole stock and a 14 power scope on it turns it into a gun that you would sit on the edge of a field with. I dunno, just my .02.

The 35 whelen is a $700-$800 rifle with a $500 scope. Kind of a crap shoot with custom builds in odd ball calibers. Most used customs built by reputable builders are lucky to bring 2/3 value of new. You would most likely need to list the rifle on gunbroker or a hunting forum to move it!

If it were me, I would pass!

I'm with Porsheguy on the 35 Whelen . IF you wanted that caliber and could shoot it then it might be worth a little more. That action was popular years ago because they were cheaper than custom actions or used factory actions. Getting good scope mounting is hard on these with heavy recoiling cartridges.
We bought some wholesale clearance Remingtons in this caliber and they sold fast to guys out west.
