Don't waste your money, but something that's actually practical. If you go to a public range with it everyone will think you are compensating for a having a tiny dick.

This...

If you drop that $700 you were planning on spending along with the $1200 or so from the worthless Desert Eagle .50AE you'll have yourself a damn fine firearm.

Springfield loaded. Only 100 or so above your budget. Trijicon sights; ambidextrous safety; full guide rod(an arguable mod anyway) but most I've seen have the "nm" prefix to the serial # signifies it is at least assembled in the US which from what I understand means a tighter fitted pistol.

Basic differences. Sights, safety; guide rod and a much better finish. Worth the 150-200 more? I think so. Good luck

99% sure I will be putting a Springfield Loaded on layaway today after work. I figure if I got the mil spec or GI that I would want to do the things to them already done to the loaded model so I might as well save a few bucks and spend a little more up front.

This.

I have one also, been dead reliable, planned on upgrading it just haven't had the need to. Feeds everything I throw at it. I think it's a good starter 1911.

For $700 go with the Ruger. Most people who have been inside of them find many higher end parts than other 1911s for that price. For that given price range they are probably one of the best 1911s you can get new.

I love mine. I wish my son would give it back.

Somewhere well after 5k round my plunger tube came loose.
A call to SA had me printing a fedex label, pick up the next day.
The gun was back, with a new plunger tube staked in place, in less than ten days.
That alone earned my brand loyalty, but there has been other SA returns, just not as quick.

Awesome. A company that stands being there products is becoming very rare these days.
