Default Help selecting my first 1911

I'm looking to get my first 1911 and am looking for guidance. My budget is $700ish. Anything I need to look for or avoid?

Springfield, Para, Rock Island, STI, Ruger, Remington should all have something in your price range. I would avoid anything with the name Taurus on it.

And, if you haven't read it yet read this: 1911 buyers guide

Put Sig on that list too . If your looking at a range toy the Taurus wouldn't be that bad . I hate the hammer lock and cheesy lettering on the slide. We sell tons of them even though they are rated the same as Hipoint.

I love my RIA, and its well below your price range, but I assume you can get much better for you $700 budget.

I've looked at a few of thoes, it's probably what I'll end up getting and then use some of the remaining budget on ammo and possibly some mods.

I think I'm going to buy a Remington...and to SS, why not a 1911? For me it would be a shooter, as in maybe shot twice and forever to sit in the safe with the rest of my crap

I tried the whole 1911 thing... I just don't see the point. Ancient design, tons of money to bring to the basic reliability of a $500 Glock... limited capacity...

There really isn't anything worth buying into here

I've shot a few RIA 1911s, I liked them. One if them is on my list of guns to buy. Can't beat the price either.

To better connect with my grandfather I never got to meet. I remember seeing his WWII medals before my aunt did some shady Shit and ended up with them. One of them was some kind of out of the ordinary award for pistol marksmanship with twin 1911's on it. I don't remember exactly what it was and my aunt won't talk about them.

I'm 95% sure it's the one circled.

Perfect! OK, is the springfield GI or Mil Spec more true to a WWII model?

Fuck. My wife gave me the OK to start a layaway on a Desert Eagle .50 AE today. Decisions decisions... Yes I know it's over rated, over priced and ammo cost 2-3/rnd but it's just so fucking cool!

Not really. You're going to regret it the second you buy it.

You'd be better off with a S&W .500 mag for the cool factor at the range.

Go with the G.I. model Springfield 1911. It's more true to what you're going for.

#1 Your rite.

#2 I'll consider the .500 when someone makes a semi auto for it.

#3 See #1.

I love my Taurus . been a great gun and was a good price. Have close to 5000 rounds through it. I don't care for there revolvers but can't beat my 45 1911 for the price. Just my 2 cents
