I don't think it matters really. It doesn't seem remotely accurate. First time for me was 4%, then figured after tax and pulled out the "unmentionables" and was still at 6. No way.

I can see this being accurate. There are vast amounts of people who make almost nothing each year. With 7 billion people on the planet most are extremely poor. Hell our poverty people in the U.S. are way better off than most of the world.

/thread.

I found the link to the website in a book I was reading. The specific chapter was talking about how we, In first world countries, live in a bubble and the reality for the rest of the world isn't even a blip on our radar.

The author compares it to Disney World, it's a bubble of magical fantasy and when you're there you can almost get lost in that bubble and forget reality. It's no different in first world countries. We live in a bubble and we may see things about the outside world but it's not reality to us.

It's actually quite a good book. It's called "Unfinished" by Richard Stearns. He's the President of World Vision which is a large and very active humanitarian organization. So, he's not just arm chair Quarterbacking the issue.

Agreed. Travel around the world and you will prove this to yourself. People here have no idea what poverty is till you travel to other parts of the world.

I don't live in other parts of the world, I live in America,

At least half of the starving countries wouldn't be starving if they didn't have more children than the land can support.

We have been sending aid to these countries for decades, and still America is called 'The Great Satan' or some other bullshit.

I say it's time to stop supporting other countries and focus on our own problems.

So your answer to overpopulation is birth control. How are these people going to get that?

inb4theyjustneedtostopgh avingsex

And your second answer is to give up because there are no visible results.

Were just animals that are too smart for our own good. If only the strong actually survived we'd be helping insure survival of the species... Unlike now.

I believe someone else thought that in the past. He had a mustache and killed a bunch of Jews.

No, you've got that wrong.

Only the strong survive, not I am the strong and I'll kill who I see fit.

Rob is right, to a point, only the strong should survive, within reason of course. That doesn't mean you draw a comparison to the nazi's and start killing off those who you do not view as strong, that means you quit sending "ridiculous" (i use that word to show that it is ok to send "reasonable") amounts of aid to other parts of the world when you have your own citizens who could benefit from some of that aid.

At the same time you stop sending "ridiculous" amounts of aid to your own citizens and reform the welfare system so that it can be used as a proper tool to get people back on their feet and create contributing members of society.
