Quick search on ammoseek.com shows 7.62x39 non-corrosive, berden primed, steel cased at $.20-23 a round. There are a number of places that have 1000 rounds of it for $220-250. If the price is right I would buy it even if I didn't plan to give it as a gift. I own smaller ammo stashes of multiple calibers I don't have a gun in yet.

A few days ago my youngest comes in and says Sammy I found one of your arrows in the yard. She says that's weird I have not lost an arrow in the yard. This morning I see something weird stuck to the sheet metal of my pole barn. It was a fletching. Turns out she was shooting into the square bales in the barn and put one through the side. Nice.

I really should've taken pics of it before I worked on it. It was a freakin train wreck. Rust everywhere... carbon, dirt and tons upon tons of dust all over it and in the action like the last owner kept it in a barn. The safety switch was a homemade job that was just a little metal plate with a booger glob of brass on it for purchase. I got a brand new selector switch for free with it and promptly swapped it out. Wood was completely dried out and a good five shades lighter than it is now. Spent a good bit of time massaging oil into the wood. It's in perfect shape mechanically and even the bore of the barrel looks brand new with a mirror shine.

This thing is AWESOME old school home defense. It's an old Mossberg 500 12 gauge with a 18.5" smooth bore 3" chamber slug barrel and rifle sights. I bought it for my wife since she absolutely LOVES shotguns and it made an awesome present for her! She damn near started crying because she loves it so much.

Not bad for $200 total invested and five hours of elbow grease.

There's a 1894 in .44 going to auction on monday- repocast/ssl firearms. It's a no reserve police auction. I went down and checked it out thursday. It's in pretty decent shape; it has a Kmart scope mounted on it- it's an oldie

I will keep an eye on it, thanks for the heads up. I have no reason though to get a gun in .44...but there always has to be a first one to start with.

That Marlin 1894 in .44 does look like a pretty clean shooting grade rifle. I do not care for high scope mounts though. It is a 1981 model so no safety which will drive the price a little higher. Probably go for $1200-$1500.
