I am kinda interested in an AR or AK type pistol. Do you guys know who might carry something around Metro Detroit?

I knew those were the Ateam guns

How so ?
7.62x39 has better ballistics in supersonic form, but can still give the exact same subsonic performance, it is more available, it is cheaper, is offered factory in steel, brass, light or heavy bullets, Match, hunting, or surplus grades, FMJ, HP, SP, RSP, I've even seen hardcasts, and is also available in sealed tins on strippers, if that tickles your fancy.

The 300's saving grace is that it works with minimal changes in the AR platform, minimizing extra parts and equipment. The same people who get hard about this, talk about consolidating to fewer components and fitting multiple guns, etc. The 7.62x39 may take a bit more to work in an AR, but it works great and may already be on hand for break actions, bolt guns, Mini-30's, SKS, AK's or Cheap AK style pistols.

For the niche of people with one gun, who want another upper for either hunting (others are better though), to be tacti-cool, or who can't convince the wife to let them buy more guns the 300 fills the role well. It also works well for convincing the wife that getting into reloading is a good idea. Otherwise, it is mostly trumped by 7.62x39.

There is no dought the 762x39 is a good cartridge. The platform's it was designed for work great.
With that said the the two cartridges are very similar but the rifles they work best are very different. The only difference on the 300 blackout and 223 is the barrel. Everything else is the same. To adapt to the 7.62 you need different bolt , barrel and mags. The magazine is the weakness in the conversion. You had the same problems with 223 in the ak platform.
As far as ammo the big plus for the blackout is reloading . Brass is scarce for the 7.62 and looking online is close to 40 cents a case. You also have to watch for berdan primed cases. If your a 300 loader 223 is everywhere and forming is easy. There are way more bullet choices for the 308. As far as subsonic I have never heard of 762x39 subsonics? Im sure there's lots of stuff Ive never heard of but that I would have.
Like I say Im not knocking it just pointing out the plus side of the 300.

Was saving for a Dillon 550, but I think I'm going to buy a Lee Turret instead to get started.

Have you looked at the Hornady Lock n Load with the turret upgrade?

Oh man. You gotta look into it. It's a great set up and much higher quality than Lee.

Nope. Turret that uses locking collars for the dies. It lets you set up everything for let's say .308 and if you want to swap calibers you just swap put all the dies and swap in your different dies. They all hold the fine tuned settings you established and let you keep cranking out consistent ammo much faster than having to reset everything when you swap.

Just set it and forget it!

Eh, if I'm going to get a turret, I'm going to upgrade to a progressive before long anyways. Plan is to crank out cheap ass hard cast 9mm as cheap as possible for practice. I can get setup with the Lee under $200

If you're going to order anything Safariland... I recommend giving them a call and ordering from them direct. Saved a decent bit of money doing that for my HK. Hopefully the holster works lol

May have to try one of these. The muzzle blast is terrible from a short barrel.

Is there something about berdan primed cases that make them unsafe or is it just a problem for reloading? I have a line on 960 rounds of 123 gr. full metal jacket, lead core bullet, berdan-primed, steel case ammo made in Germany. I was gonna pick it up for my brother but don't know what it's worth or if it's safe.

Just with reloading. They have two small holes on the outside edge instead of the middle. Good to go otherwise.
Also with the crap going on between us and Russia prices might climb on this type of ammo. You might want to stock up .

What's 960 rounds of it worth? I don't have anything that shoots 7.62x39 but it could make a good birthday gift for my bros.
