lady, we are booked until February, so if you would like to pay OT, we can have a tech out today around 5pm.

"OMG, THIS IS ROBBERY, I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU AREN'T MAKING MORE SPOTS AVAILABLE"

rinse and repeat.

Excuses I've heard today for needing emergency service (none of these were for failures, lack of maintenance)

1. My horse is dehydrated. I need my well pump working
2. Had spleen surgery, medication needs to be refridgerated
3. I had service scheduled with you guys last month, but you forgot to show up, so you should come out ASAP for the same price
4. no heat
5. it's almost christmas
6. no heat
7. it's almost chirstmas
8. no heat
9. it's almost chirstmas.

blah blah, your lack of planning does not constitute an emergency on my end, unless you're willing to pay.
Sounds about like the hvac business, glad we don't do residential.
The other good one is the new customer who ok'd everything and needs ASAP then want to negotiate the bill after the fact.

My parents have a backup generator and yet still have a large enough propane heater for indoors for heat, a stocked camping kitchen, 2 deep cycle batteries to power an inverter to run aquarium heaters and enough flashlights, candles and lanterns to land a 747. Not to mention the artesian spring a mile down the road. They have no power (read my previous post) and are living more comfortably than some individuals that still have it because they aren't idiots. They enjoyed coffee, eggs and bacon w/side of toast this morning in a 68* house with no power WHATT???!!1!

Would a kerosene heater work?

Do they require ventilation?

As far as permanent ventilation? No, you might crack a window though.

Thanks Tie Dyed I was prepared with generator fuel and wood but it still sucks $25 min a day for fuel for the gen compared to $3.50 dollars a day for electricity.

Please light the kerosene heater outside and let it get up to temp, they tend to stink like hell untill they get hot for some reason (I think it has to do with combustion temperature and whatnot paging Bill Nye the science guy)

Yeah they have a smell at first for sure. I have an indoor wood burner so I don't really worry about another forum of heat but those without a gen set and heat that needs electric should buy a cheap one IMHO.

My spleen is doing fine, thanks for caring.

I just put my meds out on the porch, hope they don't freeze or you will be getting another phone call.

I don't need one right now, we have power. The ice storm barely frosted the car windows where I live. I'd consider getting a kerosene heater if I didn't have access to a gas or wood burning fireplace where I live (which I do).

Growing up, I remember staying at my Aunt's cabin up north all of the time in winter, and how bad my eyes would hurt when the fireplace couldn't heat the place well enough and they would lite kerosene heaters. That stuff can't be healthy to breathe.
