Crossing a groomed trail is one thing, driving down a groomed trail for miles leaving ruts is another.

yes, "if the trial is legal", then by all means feel free to use it how u see fit.
i would in my jeep. many shared use trails that i have encountered are only groomed on the shoulder. so you have plenty of trial to use and not mess up the groomed part. i really dont use groomed trail much, we run the areas with less traffic. so i run through the ruts all the time. its a non issue for me.

i dont run on alot of shared use trails, and dont know how much of the system is actually shared use during the sled season. seems like when i do see a jeep, or truck on the trail, its in a groomed area, with the "no wheeled vehicle" signs posted. perhaps there is a legal trail crossing it somewhere and he got lost? the grooming should give him a clue?

i do hate to see torn up trail that has to be fixed, or re-groomed, when it was just done. thats cost money that could be better spent elsewhere. i would hate to see some guys wife or kid get hurt in some ruts too. even at sensible speeds, a new rider can get tossed fairly easily. im not an msa member, because i want to share the trails with everyone safely. that is not their policy!

some of the groomed trail is crosses private property, you dont pay to use that, and you are not welcome there! right or wrong thats the way it is. its also hard to tell sometimes where the private property starts, and where it ends. if you are on a snowmobile trail long enough, you will most likely cross private property on many trails.

you can do whatever you want. personally i avoid groomed trails all i can.

love you too oz! merry christmas!

About 330 miles of the trail system is shared and hardly any of that is just groomed on the shoulders. the trail is groomed just as any other trail out there. Many of those trails are connectors making michigan one of largest interconnected trail systems around. Michigan has over 6000 miles of groomed snowmobile trails, I say to the snowmobile avoid the shared trails you have plenty of others to use

i didnt think there was alot of shared trail. of the few pieces i have run, we run the shoulder, and it is groomed there. mabey the local groomer wont bother with the rest of it because of ruts? we ususlly run connector trails that are not groomed, and forest service roads. we dont like the sled traffic. dont wanna get hit head on by someone that thinks they are tucker hibbert. i had heard 7600 miles of groomed trail in michigan, from the vp of msa last year in pine stump junction. he was a nice guy, and would be open to a meet with glfwda to see where the two groups could work together. its not don reed anymore, i forget his name, im pretty sure i have his business card.

Jim and I ran into this yesterday in st Helen. We pre ran for sno fari and on the road out, a county road, some douche in a grey side by side with tracks came up to us and said we were on a snowmobile trail, but don't worry about it this time because our tires were big enough and they weren't digging in and they were going to re groom that night anyway. We were in the motor sport area that is open to all vehicles at all times everywhere. Jim didn't feel like arguing the point that we were twenty feet from a street sign as it was getting late and we were just unlocking hubs and shit. The more I think about it the more I want to go back and fukc with that guy.

That would be him.
I really wanted to tell him to pound sand but it wasn't worth it. His attitude showed that if he really had a case, he would have called the cops or DNR on us. He told us he had been following us for 4 miles. If he had, he would have realized we never left the MSA and that we were mostly running trails where we were making first tracks.

I wonder if he's the same asshole that made a complaint a few years back about my group "tearing up the trails" at Snofari on the Friday night run. All we did was cross the trail going into the woods. I asked to meet with the DNR and person filing the complaint but I could never get anyone to set it up.

I'm guessing if you had been with us the situation may have escalated.
Me? I'm a guy who doesn't like controversy.

Say wat!!! I would have calmly explained that we were on a legal trail and that if he doesn't stop harassing us I'm calling the cops!!

I went out yesterday to see were you went and what not. He's lying about following you for 4 miles. I never seen his tracks. Anywho are the Groom trails in the msa shared with orvs? I think they are. I was hoping you would have found a trail between the rocks and challenge hill. It's on the fire trail, there's know a blue ribbon tied off. Trail is sum what tame till you get to a hill climb. I would bet nobody would make with out winching.

I went as far as going to their Facebook page and almost leaving a message but I didn't. The best I would have been able to do was reply to his post about grooming for the day since only their board can start threads, plus it would have gotten deleted. Every time I thought about it yesterday the more pissed I got. That arrogant fukc .

I will be 100% in on any run out in the motor sport area and the surrounding access roads at any time a group wants to go up.....preferably on a big snowmobile weekend. We could meet up at the county road that is on the corner where their club house is.

Jeff, is this trail in the open logged off area? I'll take a look at where we were and look at a satellite map. We mostly ran woods yesterday. Did you find the new hill climbs we created?

Edit, just looked at the map. No, we didn't run that trail because Tab didn't want to get in the mud. (sissy) I know there's a new hill along there that we were going to check out but never made it there.
