I had an 03 ECSB with the 4.8 in it. I didn't have any issues with it. I wouldn't recommend it for hauling a large trailer but it did have enough power for what I used it for. I do however like the 5.3 much better.

You sound like a salesman AJ . If you spent anytime at a auto auction you would see the 5300's sell and the and 4800 don't. And when they do it a good profit for the dealer that sells it to the unexpecting buyer that don't know the difference.

I've been trying to find another clean, lower mileaged 7.3 ford so my wife can have mine, it seems like they are actually going up in price compared to when I bought my current 02 7.3 last year.

I spent more money than I should have on a razor scooter. It only has 2 wheels, but I bet it goes anywhere a jeep can.

We had about the slowest trailer race ever but it was fun... Point is, his newer style 5.3 with a lighter load and probably half the miles barely beat me. But we both pulled off the line pretty equally. Not to mention it got 20MPGs going to NC cruising at 70-75. Its a great all around motor. Deffinitly not the most powerful but its completed every job I have ever thrown at it. If you throw a turbo and custom tune on it they are a totally different animal. LS motors love boost.
you towed to the mounds. Congrats.

Maybe I should buy a 4.8 for towing. All I'll need to add is a turbo, nitrous and a 3,000 stall converter.

Go home AJ, you're drunk.

AJ just stop.

I would not consider the newer truck wth the V6 for resale alone. the 5.3 is "fairly" well powered for "most" loads, but I wouldnt mind a little extra go pedal every now and again.

It was a example of the power a stock internal 4.8 can handle.. The motors are far from turds.

I agree the V6 is terrible with the exemption of the new 3.6 Pentastar in the Rams with a 8 speed transmission. You would be surprised with the power. You can still tow over 5,000 pounds and get 25 mpg in a 4x4 crew cab. WE have sold everyone that has hit our lot.

Part of the problem is nada and blue book pricing. The formula used to value vehicles hasnt changed in 15 years while the market clearly has... If you want an avg reasonable purchase price take the highest book value and subtract 13-18%. The price you get is almost universally the actual price a vehicle will sell for on the open market. The other problem is people are unbelievably self entitled and think the world owes them top dollar on thier junk while not willing to give top doller to someone else becuse they obviously believe they are owed a "good deal"

I like good deals, but I spend quite a little bit of time searching and waiting for them. If I need something bad enough, I'll pay whatever it takes. If not, I'll wait it out and be happy of my good findings.

I know this is old, but WTF is with prices? Do people really buy these for this much? Sorry you're up your ass in debt on a 80K truck, but who in their right mind pays these prices?

http://annarbor.craigslist.org/cto/4238839047.html - 07 duramax with 150K, $22.5

http://annarbor.craigslist.org/cto/4248586932.html - 06 ram, lifted, diesel, $22K

http://annarbor.craigslist.org/cto/4280926415.html - 04 F150 with 140K miles on it, $15K

The list could go on and on....clearly by this thread I'm not the only one who thinks prices are inflated. I know trucks (even gassers) are capable of lasting 250K+ miles. The problem with that is they have to be maintained, and 95% of the poeple out there don't do that like they should. Sorry if the above links are anyone on here...maybe I'm just out of touch, but when you can find trucks for another $8K with less than half the mileage...

More excellent examples.

I'm thinking of buying up a bunch of newer low mileage trucks and putting them in a pole barn for 3 or 4 years and selling them for double the price. I mean wtf? The prices are retarded.

When I was looking for a diesel, there was no way I was paying the prices that guys were asking around here. Not for 150k+ miles. I wanted an 06 or early 07 to get the infamous Duramax LBZ. The average price was and still is around $20k, and that's with high miles. Why would anybody pay that for a Michigan truck that has rust and been subject to these roads for 7-8 years? Maybe I am just crazy.

Not only trucks, I love the rotted out TJ and LJs selling with asking prices in the $9k range when you can visibly see rust holes through the body. Or the other type of add I see from time to time, great body but rotted frame, asking $7500, lol.

Not every wrangler is bad, but WTF is wrong with the people listing junk for top dollar.

When I was looking for a new tow rig, I wanted a diesel after using my dads D-max. The only way I could justify buying one, was to find a wrecked repairable. They were still out of my budget at the time. I ended up building my own truck, and I'm pretty happy with it.
