Default Chevy Volterado?

Some company manufacturing a Silverado version of the Volt. Pretty cool stuff.

That's pretty cool. If I won the mega millions, I'd buy one.

It's pretty sweet that you can run power tools off it.. As a tow rig, it would be nice to have the 220v to run the welder when you break stuff.

It has a V6 generator built in.

And the cost of replacement batteries are rediculous.

It seems like a cool concept, but I agree that I wouldn't want it because of the price tag and when it's time for new batteries .

If the batteries are a reliability concern or represent a huge added cost, I wonder if they shouldn't just eliminate them all together. Granted, you are removing what makes it a hybrid, the plug-in electric only operation. But if that thing gets 30mpg on generator produced electricity, it makes me wonder what kind of fuel economy could be achieved with a more proper engine for the application, say a small four cylinder diesel.

Locomotives are like this, diesel-electric, no batteries.

I remember when they did a hybrid concept of a full size Tahoe a few years ago. Looks like a similar layout.

I've always wondered the same thing. Seems like a smart approach.

It prety much defeats the purpose of it being a truck if the bed is unusable, might as well just get a suburban

I must have missed that...the guy said 3 or 4 times that the truck can be used exactly as it was intended... My guess was under the bed, between the frame rails, opposite the fuel tank, or maybe (since he said it didn't have a the origional transmission, that the shoe horned in there, or a combination of the 2.
