No his 1st amendment rights were not violated, his Civils rights were according to the civil rights act of 1964. No employer shall discrimanate against a person because of race, color, creed or religious beliefs. Those are his religious beliefs, and most are direct quotes from the bible. I am not religious, I have never watched the show and have gay and lesbian friends. Are civil rights not the right of every american, even if you don't agree with them or how they live their lives?

'twas a joke, I actually agree with you about it not being an amendment violation. But i am sick of every time someone says something Liberal media thinks is bad, they get all up pissy, and call for the persons head. But If hey go on an anti-religion rant, you are fine, religion and sexuality are both choices.

I don't care what Phil Robertson says. I just wanted to let all the morons who think it's a 1st amendment violation, know that they should go back to high school.

Unless your employer is the federal government, then your employer cannot violate your 1st amendment rights

Bottom line is that his opinions are nothing new to A&E and if they had ignored them, it would be a dead issue by now.

While I understand that you couldn't understand that the comment I made was to point out the fact A&E cannot violate anyone's first amendment rights.

How do you know it's not a big PR stunt?
Last night I thought about it and his 1st amendment rights werent violated. He's not in jail. It's all stupid though. Reality beats reality tv anyday in my book. I have better things to do than cry for someone making bank off of this viral garbage.

I doubt it's a publicity stunt based on their official statement. (partially quoted below) You and Sova are both right that his 1st amendment rights have not been legally violated. I'm not even sure that his civil rights have been violated as some have suggested. But his moral rights have certainly been violated. It's not been any secret what his personal beliefs are and they are apparent in most of the shows. The family ends with prayer at the end of each show. Personally, I think this is part of the appeal to the majority of Americans, it's a show that emphasizes family and faith.

For those of you that don't admire these traits, it's no surprise to me that you don't care about what has happened. For me, as a person who values both of those things, I think it's an atrocity that a person would get fired for expressing some core values that I personally think was the backbone of what built this country to be as strong as it was for so long. Our country is losing those values and we all know that our country is going to shit. I don't think it's a coincidence. If our country would stick together as strongly as the Robertsons do, just maybe we wouldn't be as fucked up as we are.

A&E has had the most success with this show of any reality show in TV history. To fire someone because they express an opinion that is pretty straight forward because they want to bow to a small group of miscreants, well maybe they're going to find out what the majority of our country really thinks. I hope they tell A&E to pound sand and move their show to a station that admires what they stand for.

Partial statement by the family leading me to believe it's not a stunt:

We have had a successful working relationship with A&E but, as a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of Duck Dynasty.

what are moral rights?

Also, it still could be a PR stunt. They pretend like they won't continue on with the show, then Boom, A&E "buckles" and un-suspends the guy. It would be a pretty successful stunt, too, since anyone who didn't know what it was before, probably does now.

Moral rights? You don't know what morals are? I've always tried to live by the Golden Rule. Treating others the way you would like to be treated is a moral obligation in my mind.

True, it could be all a stunt. But it's a huge risk too because if all the supporters were to find out that they did this just to pimp their show, they risk losing a bigger fan base than they would gain. Seems to me they risk pissing off a lot of people.

Based on what you're saying the rest of the cast should quit. I hope they do.
