Default Semi serious question to the build

for those that are reading this, been contemplating something on the truck. Looking for some input.

Keep in mind the truck will serve several purposes (listed in order):
1. daily driver
2. recreational trailer puller
3. weekend camping/mountain biking/overlanding/general weekend adventure truck

The question is this:

To run a dually set up or to not run a dually set up?

Keep in mind this will be lifted (8" total), running 37's (I think), and will have a short bed box.

Thoughts?

dually will be awfully wide to do some of the off highway exercises...

If you aren't pulling enough to require the extra tires on a regular basis, I'd leave it a singly.

My current truck is a drw. For towing there is nothing else better. Id go coast to coast with it with any load. For everything else and I mean everything, it flat out sucks! Even trips to the lumbar yard i feel its a hindrence.

Another tech question for those reading;
I am planning to run 37 inch tires, with a 17 or 18 inch rim. Looking at the axles. Question; gear ratio?currently running 4.10's. Would 5.13 ratio be too much for a DD with overdrive that's a diesel with that tire set up?
I know it will work, but I would like to still run the highway without eating 8mpg.

Just my 2 cent on gears. I have two 96 7.3's crew cabs, long beds, 4x4's one has 3.55 other 4.10 gears both have 33 " tires running 70-80 mph is to much with the 4.10 , with 37's I would stay with 4.10. These 7.3 make enough low end you would be fine.By the way I run 6 position chips (TS) Swamps tune on one and a generic tune on the other, simple and inexpensive $225.00 ea. and Baby Swamps injectors just because they needed replaced $1100.00 set. They both run great. 5 years plus and almost 300,000 on ea truck. I built a 78 CC 24 years ago with a 460 loved that truck and was a great hauler. YOURS Will be sweet GOOD job

Agree with the above. With 37s the max I would run would be 4.30's. Little extra power from engine and you'd be fine with 4.10's.

When you do injectors not if but when go with either swamps or PIS. Spend the money and do at least a 175/80's. I would really consider going even bigger. Your engine has forged rods vs pmrs in the newer ones so you at least dont have to worry about that.

Thanks for the information. I will definitely look into as described. Can't wait to get the truck back to continue on this project.

Adam, sick with 4.10's... if you get it done and don't like it, you change then.

I had 3.55 and ~32's on my 12 valve. I almost wished it was higher. I didn't do much towing with it.

Default progress

Much progress made in regards to Eleanor. The shop mocked in the motor, got the transmount situated, and is now making the mounts.
Its like it was made to fit in there.
