Default Workplace Holiday Traditions

My office just put out holiday decorations yesterday (12/9/2013), including a menorah. Can anyone explain the problem with this?

Just thought I would share.

The problem is that you are unwilling to accept diversity in the work place.

Ding Ding Ding. We have a winner. Apparently Kickstand and Nuggets know so much about diversity that they don't know that Hanukkah ended on December 5. 4 days after it ended they put out the decorations.

Kudos to them; cause I had no idea what a menorah was

Did your workplace put up signs that actually said Merry Christmas, or the generic Happy Holidays?

I find it odd that many places will call out Chanuka and Kwanzaa, but not Christmas. It seems that you should either go with Happy Holidays and metion none of them, or call out all 3..

I could not care less when Hanukkah starts or ends. I also give ZERO shits about what my employers or fellow employees choose to decorate the office with. IN or out of season.

Will you be upset if they don't take the christmas tree down on the 25th?

Why do you care?

Shouldn't you be there to work, not bitch about holiday decorations?

If they had no decorations until Dec. 29, and then put up a Christmas tree I would probably be insulted. That is exactly what happened here. No decorations until 4 days after the holiday ended. It is an example that they are just going through the motions but not taking care to actually get it right.

I worked in a synogogue as a grounds keeper when I was younger. The people there treated me nice.

It's a shame you have to focus on the negativity of your situation given the time of year it is.

I aspire to be a beacon of bacon , although I now realize that wouldn't be Hanukah or Ramadan friendly.

They made me decorate this and drive it in the parade....How dare they!

My workplace had "happy holidays" on the answering system. My boss heard it and said change, it's Christmas season. It will now say "Merry Christmas" when it goes back up this year.

Is there anyone out there that still "celebrates" Kwanzaa? Hell, I lived in Africa for two years and never heard mention of it.

Kwanzaa is an African-AMERICAN holiday. It's no wonder it wasn't celebrated in Africa. Geesh, between you and Kickstand you'd think that Americans know nothing about diverse cultures...

"Maulana Karenga created Kwanzaa in 1966 as the first specifically African-American holiday."
