Default Great 98 ZJ for sale, just needs some TLC. $1500

For sale by owner. Grand Cherokee Laredo. 4.0 I6, auto, cloth interior, PB PW PL, about 183,000 miles. Car top carrier not included.

Car was purchased new by a family friend (lady) who never used it for other than transporting the grand kids to and fro.

Second owner was step-daughter who never used the car for other than a grocery getter / soccer Mom type to and fro.

Current owner bought the vehicle winter 2008 / 2009 when it was needing repairs and the step-Daughter wanted to upgrade to a newer vehicle.

This vehicle has never been driven off-road, and has been carefully maintained its entire life.

After using if for weekend hardware store and misc here and there spare vehicle, its tired and showing signs of age. The tranny had the shift solenoid 1st gear thing going on, both were replaced by a licensed mechanic, drives down the road no problem but still throws a warning light now and then. Motor also has the typical 4.0 sounds, has for years but hasn't gotten any worse. It actually got quiet for awhile when I fixed a vacuum leak.

It has near new tires, very good condition replacement lift gate, brand new battery, fresh brakes and fresh tail pipe, and still drives OK. The passenger side front door has been replaced after it got run into in a parking lot.

Lots of potential for the right person, $1500 and its yours.

Available for look-see in Jackson. Thank you for looking.

No place to store it, tires and rear lift gate alone are worth a few bucks. No reasonable offer will be turned down. Thanks

(I couldn't accept the trail bike offer yesterday, don't need a trail bike)

Any opinions of what a fair price range for this is? Thanks

Lots of people inquiring, so far on one was brought cash. Looking to pass this to a good Jeep friendly home. Still runs straong, lots of potential, new tires and GREAT condition tailgate. Thanks

This Jeep starts right up, runs well, feels great rolling down the road with no shakes wobbles or pulls. U-joints done when they were needed, fresh track bar when it was needed, near new tires, BRAND new battery, new tail pipe, one of the best rear lift gates you'll ever find for its age (no rust), I just don't have anywhere to store it. FIRST reasonable offer takes it.

I think the transmission thing is a wiring connection thing, as it comes and goes. Both shift solenoids were recently changed by a licensed mechanic, which included the fluid and filter.

Can be seen / driven this Friday morning, or any time this Sunday. Thanks for looking

Sold my Accord last week, been driving this Grand Cherokee around every day for a couple weeks now.

The OBDII light cleared itself for a couple days, then came back, then cleared, then came back. Drives just fine with no weirdness, including in 4-high with the recent snow. As stated above, I had both shift solenoids changed a while ago. If I find a loose connector or a cable that needs adjusting, the price will go up on this. I bought a good running XJ this weekend, it may be time to give this to a mechanic and get it solved, then the price will reflect a GOOD running ZJ. You may want to buy this great running truck while I'm still too damn busy to root out the bugs, $1500 cash takes it now. Back to $1800 if I put more effort into it.

The ZJ drives, shifts, 4-wheel drive works, goes down the road just fine.

This Jeep is in great shape, just needs some TLC.

I've decided to have the transmission looked at by a mechanic I trust, if the tranny / engine light turns out to be a finicky electrical connector silly ass thing - the price WILL GO UP.
