Default Doves - Prop 3 vote yes

Did you know..........

I heard both Granholm and Devos on the radio this morning and both SUPPORT (vote yes) on the dove proposal 3.

Granholm said that the proposal is to do a 7 county trial to establish scientific data to support managing dove resources. She said several other state already have dove hunting which provides 1) a source of meat and 2) management of the population.

Granholm said on a scientific principle the proposal should pass, but it may be at jeapardy because of the emotional link between the dove and peace.

Just found that interesting. She said she considered just signing the bill, but decided it should go before the public vote because of the emotional ties so people have to the little white bundles of juicy meat.

Every hunter I know would only kill somthing they plan to eat. If there is not enough meat then you non-hunters don't need to worry about them getting shot.

Interesting that you would vote against hunting an animal that is well documented as a renewable resource, that puts meat on the table and whose population is not negatively impacted by hunting. What are your arguments? Because in my opinion Deer are just as cute as doves and nobody seems to have a problem with that.

BTW, the reason we don't hunt eagles is based on scientific data that suggests it's population would be devistated by hunting. Ironically studies by the same groups fully endorse hunting of the Dove.

Well to my knowledge there have been no studies showing that 1) Robin provides a meat source to humans and 2) the population of robins would not be negatively impacted by hunting. Both are true of Doves though.

I like your thinking though Mike. Maybe we should recommend a study to investigate the feasibility of hunting Robins too.

I saw an ad by a "hunter" and his wife.....we shouldn't shoot these pretty little song birds....."they're not a nuisance and not overpopulated"

by that thinking....I guess we should outlaw elk hunting in michigan too

By that logic we should only hunt things that are 1) a nuisance or 2) overpopulated?

That is not what drives the conservation of species via hunting and fishing in the US.

I watch the birds every day if you need to take some out make it the BlueJays there are pigs and make a big mess in my feeders. and as far as the Deer go they keep finding reasons to take them out because of the Farming communities and the Insurance companies. let alone there is a bunch more meat on them. I am all for hunting and if your cleaning ,cooking, and eating the doves then I don't care. I just think it will be open game to all the young hunters for killing them and leaving them lay.

Dove don't breed once in the spring and call it done. they can go as many as 5 times in a season and have as many as 15 offspring per pair. so when you crunch the numbers they can get thick really fast. Indiana & Illinois both have open hunting on them and they do very well with it.

Yepp, There is no inverse effects from hunting doves, they provide a delicious meal, and harvesting them is always fun.
To everyone who voted no, Thats ok, its not like dove hunts in other states are a great source of revenue, so I guess by voting no you are not helping the michigan economy, I will now call CUMjeeper and fatassova damn republican bastards.
