Name that fruit!

I haven't a clue what this is. I have a tree with thousands of them. Their slightly greenish brown and about the size of a quarter. They have many seeds inside so not a grape. Leaves are a bit larger than the fruit and sort of pear shaped. They have a bit of an apple flavor but leave a bitter taste.
Anyone?

Nope, very 'appleish' texture and flavor.

Most have all fallen off. Small pear shaped, no sawtooth edges from what I remember. Will try to get one tonight.
