This is perhaps the first November 10 in 35 years that I haven't heard that song on the radio.

Just out of curiosity why was/is this such a big deal? Serious question, nit trying to be insensitive, there have been many other times more people died and no one cares on that anniversary.

I think in that time it was the most loss of life in a modern freighter. That, and nobody really knows exactly what happened. There was radio communication, saying that they should be ok, and then just nothing.

Along with the mystery that surrounds it. Also the perfect storm that happened. With there radar going out, the white fish-point light out, also there signal beacon.

It certainly is an interesting topic. Though it's sort of corny, I like the song. It's rare that you can listen to a song and get a history lesson at the same time.

My dad remembers this storm, Biggest storm he has ever seen on the Lakes. The Big Fitz was at the time record holder in total tonnage hauled and top speed for a freighter. She sanks in less than 30 seconds with all crew and no mayday. 1 rotation on the Andersons radar she was there, the next she was gone... And the Legend lives on.
