I can give you my old man's number and he would be happy to do it for you. It certainly would not cost 4k or anywhere close to that to have it done.

Sorry I have not read every post but did you call the mackinaw bridge authority. We have towed a 9 foot beam all over the place. Other than getting through the toll which they will have to let you around and be escorted. I dont see this being an issue.

As stated earlier, every state is different. I looked into it here in WI and found that the permits are cheap but they forbid you to travel Friday and Sunday afternoon and evening as well as any day before a major holiday. I also found out that almost no one gets these permits. But again, if you kill some one in an accident be ready to give it all away...

Yep I called them. No extra charges besides the normal axle charges. 4.00 for the truck, and 5 for each additional axle. Over 10 foot requires escort. Winds over 25mph stops anything over 8.5 from crossing until it settles down.

This is why my folk are extra cautious. They've worked very hard for what they have, any have no interest in giving more away than what the .gov takes already.

Must have been a hell of a deal on the boat then to make it worth going through all this. The boat isn't anything special really (not saying it's not nice, just that there are probably a hundred just like it in Michigan) it's not that long and I doubt it's that heavy. Just hook that bitch up and go! I'd give the trailer a good once over before you pull out though.

that and the trailer usually isn't oversize width, though it can be.

This.

This isn't a 'big deal' as you put it. I don't think there has been a single mention of it being to expensive to bring it home. Why pay somebody 4000 dollars to haul the damn thing, when we have a truck that is more than capable, it comes with the trailer to do it. My biggest problem, is I am not educated on the wide load permitting side of it.

As I'm working/self teaching my way though it, I'm figuring it out. The whole point of the thread was seeing if anybody had done it before, and looking for pointers. Not asking opinions on how it should be retrieved. That's already been decided.

More accurately, it like you buying a motor home, and then bitching about having to hire somebody to drive you old ass around in it.
lol you sure told whiterhino...

Almost 7K under blue book. After 60+ dollar in permits, totally worth it... All pending survey.

In WI you do. Any combination of vehicles, over 8k are required to pull across, commercial or not. I called the WI-DOT and asked. MI only has the quick check scales at the bridge.

Maybe your parents can get out of their deal. It would be alot closer .
Is it the one that looks like it is stored at Great Lakes Marina? We looked at that one. (online) and decided to go the GB

AAAnd it's confirmened. Not getting the boat.

But to stay on topic I learned a lot about oversized towing.

1. Once you have learned to navigate the online programs that the states use, it's pretty easy.

2. 8'6'' is max legal towing width. (Already knew it, just posting it for information purposes.)

2. Under 10' Wide can be towed with single or annual permits (after applying) with ONLY flags that are 18''X18'' on each corner.

3. Over 10' Wide Can not be towed weekends or holidays, and must have oversized banners front and rear.

4. No oversized towing at night.

5. No towing over the Mackinaw Bridge if winds are over 25 mph.
