Default When do you turn on?

When do you turn on the furnace for the winter (fuck you Immortal) season? When I was a kid my dad refuse to even consider it until October 1st. I have kept that ridiculous goal also, and aim for Oct 30th as my date that the thermostat finally gets turned above 50 (bottom of the thermostat).

Do you have a certain date? Do you have a certain temperature? Maybe until the wife starts lighting fires in the kitchen to keep warm?

Most importantly, have you turned on the furnace yet this year?

Yup Nick, kids change that. Before kids it was if the house falls below 55 for the majority of the day. Now it is if the house falls below 60 or so consistently. My house warms up during the day quite a bit, even if it is cool outside. So I can stretch it a bit longer as it wont dip as far in the night.

Ours has been on a few times in the last few weeks, my wife is always cold...it comes on anytime it gets below 65-66 in the house. It is a trade off for me, I hate to be hot so the a/c runs a bunch in the summer and she don't complain too much.

We were out of town over the weekend so I changed the filter and ran it at 65 to get rid of the smell while we were gone. Otherwise sometimes I will let it cycle once in the morning just to warm it up a bit. When the temp inside stops getting into the high 60's during the day it will be left on.

My wife is the furnace boss. I have no say so on temperature control in my house.
I do notice she will turn on the furnace when she is chilly during daytime hours. So far no furnace

Ours has been on for a while. I like being comfortable with just a t-shirt & shorts while watching TV. I have no interest in needing to dress like I'm going ice fishing while sitting in my own home.

I've fired up the pellet stove a few times already to take the chill out of the house.

^^^This. I like to be warm. Fired up the outdoor boiler about a week ago. Keep it about 71 in the house. sit around in shorts and a T shirt.

Furnace was turned off 5.22 (50F) and went back into operation yesterday (31F), 10.14.
147 days of no furnace.

we are using an electric blanket at night to keep the furnace at 60 until 6am then to 70 until we leave for work.
Caulked to outside windows again and the heavy curtains go up this weekend to kill whatever drafts might come thru.

I turned mine on last night (it was 57 in the house). My house is cement and does not warm back up during the day after a cold night

I just leave mine in the 60-64 range (or however close the old honeywell is for accuracy). Usually cycles once or twice in the morning. but the sunlight heats the house up to 73 during the day... unless that thermostat is way borked.
