Stupid little dana 44 axle shaft U-Joint... I thought having a stock 258 and 44's would be fine with 36 x 14.5 TSL's I was able to unlock the hubs and put the T-case into 2wd low and drive out with little issue...

This is the first time I broke an axle u-joint so I'm not going to throw in the towel yet, but I will make sure I have a hub socket with me from now on !

Yup, I carry a hub socket with me all the time even though I haven't had a joint problem since I went to the 60's 6 years ago. Keep in mind that your D44 joint is the same as a D30 joint. Chromo axles & Yukon super joints will solve your problem.

will certainly help. I ran yukons with spicers for 3 years on 37s and had no issues. I wheeled it smart, but wasn't afraid to use the skinny pedal when needed (only had the 4.3 then)

What ! Not any CJ Dana 30 I've ever had! But, I've never had a dana 30 with chromo "big" u-joint axle shafts... with that said I have had this conversation once or twice, and I know a dana 60, and maybe even a 6.0 is in my future. I wish I could take back all the money I've spent and be that much further ahead but I can't change the past, but you know hind sight is 20/20 and it's hard to listen to those who have been down that road when you think you know it all !

True, the CJ joints are smaller. (I forget the number) but the newer 30's & 44's both have x760 joints.

10-4 ! and for all those that are still reading, Jim is still up ! I convinced a friend (the one that you posted the video that said "Nice Sounding Jeep" that has a 400+ hp SBC in it) to go with RCV's in his 30 and for the most part he has been happy, but I think I will disregard my own "past" recommendations and go with a 60 if I BREAK another axle shaft u-joint. (Jared please start building a narrowed D-60 with that funny passenger side drop)

Good night.

that's a good call imo. I spent money on my D44 here and there and wished I went right to the D60 the first time around. so much more fun
with less worries

I know everything will break at some point, but there's never been a time when I stood on the go pedal and wondered if things were gonna stay together. running 10 factory 35 spline stuff with 300m joints now.
