Default Garage heater calculation. Is this accurate?

I'm finding references to this equation:
cubic footage x .133 x desired temperature rise = BTUs needed

34 x 24 x 9 x. 133 x 50 = 48,837

What is your garage heater size vs sq ft, and does it work?

hm, i wonder what the .133 is equal to in insulation...

I used to heat my dad's garage when I was living with him with two space heaters and the incadescent lightbulbs in his 24x24x9 garage. so like 3000w of electric heaters

bumped it up about 30 degrees after a while. took the bite out of it at least.

32x50x9x.133x50=95760

100,000 btu furnace.

The oil burner in my garage is rated at 80,000 btu and would get the garage up to 70 on a 30 degree day, so that's about right.

Seems off. We did that with
40X30X11X.133X50= 87780

Seems off considering I've been doing this with a 30,000 BTU heater. I'd bet this is the calculation for open rafters and no insulation.

Correct, open studs, open rafters, no insulation, detached garage.

If you're using a salamander heater, you may be 90 degrees in front of it and 40 degrees behind it.

he bailed all of last year, because he claims that two other things are more important than sledding trips.

I figured I'd do as he asked for a month to see if he will be a huge vagina this winter or not.

The only way to properly calculate the size is with a manual J heat load calc

What type of insulation, windows, doors etc do you have? What directions do those doors and windows face? What type of construction?
