I don't mind bicyclist. I am sure many are productive members of society, but like over zealous bible thumpers screaming heathens I believe we can do without bicyclists chest pounding of legalities of road use.

When I'm riding on the road, in traffic, I'm usually transporting my self to work. When I'm riding my bike in the country (city riding is miserable), as a hobby, I'm usually not holding up to many cars.

I still stick to my point, it's like half a minute. If you're late to work because I held you up by that little of time you should have left earlier for work. When I rode my bike to work (I don't as much anymore because I changed jobs and live at work) I would arrive 15 min early and never, not one day, was I late. I can guarantee that it won't be so much of a inconvenience if people were to give them selves more time to get to work.

Today.........A jogger, IN THE ROAD, coming right at me in the middle of the lane.

There is a bike path......... RIGHT THERE..........to my right.

I stop,........I do NOT get out of his way,...........he curses me.

And you wonder why attitudes are negative towards non motorists in the road

Most of you must not live anywhere near Amish country...

The road is not exclusively for you.

Yes, the road is exclusively for motorist. The amish stay as far off the side as they can (where I have seen them in Indiana) witch is more than you can say for most cyclist.

They also have to follow the rules of the road, which they feel don't apply to them.

I say if they want to be on the roads they need to pay a road useage fee, Semis have to do it, cars pay the gas tax, you have to register motorcycles, sprees, and trailers, why not register bicycles?

Just what we need is some more laws in this country.

Bicycles are economical, environmentally friendly (not that I give a shit) forms of transportation. They do not pollute, use no fuel, and put no wear on the road, why would we tax them if they do not cost any money to operate?

I'd be for this. I mean, I pay taxes for all my vehicles. What's one more fee? We can base the fee on how much wear each vehicle puts on the road. I'll make a wager that my fee would be about 10 dollars a year, mostly to make the complainers happy.

While I agree they have a right to be on the road, for the life of me I can't understand why I have to be held up by bikes peddling down the road when there is a bike path that our tax dollars paid to have put in. I'm not talking about a sidewalk path or a path to the right of the curb that pedestrians can use, I'm talking a path out lined specifically for bikes on the right shoulder of the same road I'm travelling on. But yet these bikers continue to ride in the car lanes holding up traffic. When I ride a bike if I see a car coming up behind me I get over off the pavement as far as possible to allow the cars to go on by but it seems most of these bikers or cyclists take the "I don't have to move over" attitude. It's like this when you're on the highway do you drive in the passing lane and hold up traffic or do you move to the right and allow faster traffic to pass on by ?
I was raised with the idea roads are for cars primarily, bikes can be ridden on them but they are secondary traffic so move over. I guess this is wrong according to the laws but I believe it is the considerate thing to do. If you hold me up you're going to get smoked out .

That is a pretty generalized statement.

Most cyclists i come across do follow the rules of the road.

To me that is like saying all offroaders don't follow the rules just because you see some that don't.

Bike paths are not always good to ride on. Fat people walking their dogs in the middle of the path with a dog on each side blocking the path. Kids that ride like they are drunk, bums carrying fishing poles sideways, etc.

Also some paths have speed limits of 7,10,&15 mph which isn't fast enough. It turns into driving 80 in a school zone. So you ride in the street.

Also most motorist don't respect cyclist so stopping is sometimes more dangerous than just going. I run red lights all the time on my bike because the traffic sensitive lights don't activate with a bicycle
