My dad cut one in the end of his thumb 10 years ago. He just went in to get a stitch and they asked if he could move his thumb and he couldn't. Every time he tried the tendon slid down. They had to pull it back up from his wrist and reattach it at the end of his thumb. The base of his thumb moves but to this day he can't bend it at the middle knuckle.

The first thing I would do is come up with a better story than I closed my pocket knife with my hand in it.

I cut the two tendons to my pinky and ring finger, however, i cut them on the backside of my hand, 2"cut across. I was removing a window regulator on a Monte Carlo when i worked in the dealership and did it on the inside of the car door. I was pulling on it because it was jammed and BAM it broke free and there was blood everywhere. I was in a cast for two months so I could move the wrist up or down at all and then I had to have 2 month of therapy. Well 19yrs later I only have 75% feeling on the backside of my hand and in between the two fingers.

Tore a tendon in my ring finger. Was only 50% tore from the bone so they put me in a cast for 6 weeks. 4 weeks of physical therapy and almost a year sense it happen and It still gives me problems when trying to grip a baseball bat or hammer. Slight pain gripping anything really but i think my other fingers are picking up the slack. haha Do what the doctor says 100%.

I've hit a few tendons working as a production die maker the last 17 years. 3 in the hands and 1 in the elbow. Seems like every time I hit 1 it was 50% or less. The main thing is to keep it clean. Last tendon I hit was only 10-20%.... 1" cut above my pointer finger(was cut on a die that was covered in nasty coolant). I had it stitched up and w/in 48 hours I had a pretty bad infection. The DR's were worries about blood poisoning due to swelling/color, and I was given a IV and put on serious antibiotics for 10 days. My hand almost looked like something you would see on yahoo news, under flesh eating bacteria! Aflac did dish out enough $ to put tires on my car, but all my coworkers told me I was a big pussy.

And this is why I'll never own another liner lock knife. My sog would never fold up like this.

I cut my middle finger and ring finger almost completely off . Got them caught in a machine at work they were just hanging by the skin that didn't get cut completely through. The docs first told me they were going to finish removing them but the head doc of the hand surgery department said no they were going to try and save them.
They ended up stitching the tendons up and putting pins in to keep the fingers straight . I only missed that part day as they did emergency surgery and the day after surgery then was back to work. I had splints also mostly to protect the fingers from further damage as I was a set-up mechanic . I was about 8 weeks recovering had to change bandages every other day as it also ripped my finger nails right out of the nail bed, then had months of physical therapy and didn't have any feeling in the fingers for about 18 months. Feeling eventually came back but not full feeling.
I can grip pretty well but can't make a tight fist like I could before and the last joint of the middle finger doesn't flex much at all. Follow your docs orders and wish you good luck and a speedy recovery.

I just stood up after sitting for a couple hours in an uncomfortable chair. I lost feeling in both of my legs, but with a few minutes of PT I should be back to 100%
