I just got a text from a N.Y. area code 917............

Let me go ask my Nigerian friend that's a prince.

I'll be back.

Could be.

But I do know lots of people that have moved to other parts of the country and not changed phone numbers.

When they ask about "the item" it's a scam. If they don't mention specifically what you are selling, it's a generic, pre-written scam.

Yea,.I got all that
What's odd here is that someone had to actually read my phone # and convert from words to numerals and then send me a text message

I mean, no doubt in my mind that its BS, it's just the new extremes these jerks are going to.

I usually ignore anything that sounds like a scam. Although, there were a few times that I got a msg like yours only to later find out it was legit. The way you find out is they will usually try to contact you again with a non-scam sounding msg.

It's not worth my time to reply to people asking if item is still available, or if they ask about something that I stated in the ad, they usually just end up wasting your time.

I imagine it would be fairly easy to write a code or a macro to convert words into numerals automagically :)

Write your phone number as a mathematical equation, then you will only get calls from smart people

Write your phone number in mspaint as words and numbers and save it
as an image and include it in the photos.

I don't know why people immediately think someone asking if an item is still available is a scam.

Through all the stuff I've bought on Craigslist one thing I've had further reinforced is that people are lazy and often don't delete ads when things are sold. Therefore I usually ask if it's still available before wasting my time writing out a long response asking questions or what not just to get a reply of "It's sold" or maybe even no reply at all.

As far as the New York area code goes... There are search engines that let you search the entire country for stuff on Craigslist. Depending on what you are selling someone may be willing to drive the 8-10 hours to come get it.

I guess if it were me I'd keep going down the path until the guy wanted to pay me extra and have his shipping company come pick it up.

But, do you ask "Is item still available" or "do you still have the go-kart"?

It doesn't matter where they are from, but more how specific they get with their questions.
