Default SilkRoad was raided and taken down by the FBI!

http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygree...-black-market/

Turns out the owner lived in San Fran, was making $80mil a year, and was operating the site from the library. This is going to be an amazing movie when it comes out, it's unbelievable how he got caught.. All linked to a gmail account going back many many years..

I never purchased or made an account there, but I browsed it a few times. I was amazed on what you could purchase there... Anything..

I don't do drugs, but I'm guessing the $1.2 billion dollars in drug sales per year will amount to a bunch of new local crime statistics when people are going to bad parts of town to score.

I'm curious if this will hurt bitcoin, or help it in the end. Most people associated bitcoin with SilkRoad... I think it will help make it a more legit currency.

The feds took a ton of BTC that were in escrow accounts at the road. That will remove a lot from circulation which should drive the price up.

BTC has been trading around $140 for the last couple weeks, gradually climbing since the DOS attacks a few months back. BTC immediately dropped to $110 when the feds announced they busted them.

Not only did the feds get the physical servers, but they have been monitoring it for over a year, I bet they have all 1 million customer's personal data...

I read that yesterday, and didn't know what Silk road was. I have to laugh at people that actually bought drugs from the site.

it was a black/grey market. supposedly completely anonymous. Could pretty much buy anything, 85% was contraband. They didn't allow anything that was fraudulent to be sold, or child pornography.

Kept college kids from driving into the ghetto's to get their party drugs I guess.

You could only access it via the TOR browser. It looked just like amazon.com, but instead of keyboards and books, it was cocaine and black tar heroin. There were sellers of cocaine, PCP, meth, etc with thousands upon thousands of reviews.

This is all just a cover story. Its really run by the CIA and they couldn't come up with a way to keep operating during the government shutdown.
