Border Collie... smartest dogs ever, come in moderate sizes, and will herd your cattle or sheep without teaching them

They can definitely be hyper. I've been lucky, mine have been calm.

Unless you have full time work I think border collies have to much energy.

Our pure bred never had a tail, he does have a little nub though.

Our mix does have a tail only because of the cattle dog in him.

We keep our pure bred cut pretty short year round and our mix is 1.5 years old and has never been cut but his fur is kinda short because of the cattle dog.

BUT, we do have a lot of fur in our house. On that note, we do have a pretty badass vacuum.

The hair is definitely a maintenance concern, I'm sure the husky was as well.
When I was looking I came to the conclusion that herding group dogs were my choice, sounds like Erin's dog has a lot of the same traits.

Best dogs I've had came from the local shelter, you just have to pick the right one for you. We have used pet finder to find our last one.

My dog is a lab mix with some thing

Best dog we have ever had lots of energy when we wanna play and when we don't he calms right down loves loves car rides I say any thing about a car and he runs to the door sits and looks at me.
Only thing that sucks about him is how scared he gets
I got him from a rescue I know some people are all akc or nothing but they can shove it
Most loyal and friendly dogs me or friends have had were rescues ever gave that a thought?

But my last dog that has passed was a black lab didn't drool hardly ever didn't shed to bad really didn't get as big as some labs and never really chewed and thing but a cord a couple times other then that great dogs labs are my fav

My .02

Vizslas are amazing dogs.

Sweet video, I'm sure you can appreciate.

OR

If you don't want a redhead, consider a Weimaraner.

BTW.. My Vizsla is fat and lazy.

I have a lab/mountain cur mix. He is very loyal, barks only when people are in the driveway (or can see me but cant get to me) and should be the size you are looking for. He is very laid back and great with the kids, even though his younger days were spent in a party house with a bunch of drunk a holes.

That said he is lazy and fat. He always has been though, even as a puppy. His 2 sisters had a lot more energy.

Have you considered a puggle? They have a rep as pussy designer dogs, but definitely one of the most loyal and durable mid size dog's I have encountered. Had several through rescue, it was always tough to let them go. Great with kid's, excellent stamina and energy for a medium size dog and incredibly smart.

I have a Brittany spaniel. She's a great dog. Great bird dog, active as hell (would be a great companion to bike or run with), and very friendly. She is about 38lbs. She can be retarded, but all dogs have their moment.

She can be lazy though...

I really have a soft spot for sport dogs. I agree with you about getting a purebred. My Brittany is a purebred. I think my next dog though will be a German shorthaired pointer.
