Default Fuso

Parked next to this guy and could not help but check out the drive train.

Very tight, compact, drop down case, heavy duty axles. Front of the motor to the back of the transfer case was around 5 feet. Both axles are center drop. Axles look to be 1+ tons with large hubs/knuckles. The tires were 16".

Someone could take a jeep FC cab, drop it on this chassis, bolt on some 38"s and have a very cool rig.

I looked it up a bit. The front axle is rated for close to 5000 lbs with a 5.8 ratio. The wheelbase is 135<+/-. 140-160 HP diesel engine mated to an overdrive automatic. The axles are trussed and not much larger then a 1 ton.

I just thought it was a cool little FC.

T-case looks like it hangs quite low.

With 235/85/r16 tires(31.7" tall) the clearances from the ground are 9" front diff, transfer case 11", rear axle 8". The front diff is slightly offset toward the passenger side and is 12" tall. The rear axle is 14" tall. This model is running 4.875 gears. The knuckles are massive both diffs are shaped round and trussed in the shape of an elongated diamond.

The thing is heavy as heck in stock form. But as a expedition rig or a base for a restromod FC it would be cool. The front axle is what caught my eye. They are not much bigger then a 1 ton. The front has locking hubs and the rear is full floating.

I think axles rated 2 times what 1 ton's are while similar in size would interest a 4wd community. The drop down case could be clocked with a bit of skill thrown in or ran in something Mud related. It is a heavy truck designed to have a box full of heavy stuff so the transmission would seem like a good candidate for abuse. The motors range in power. Being a cab over you know the motor is packaged tightly even with the turbo option. This being a commercial application you also know the motor is run conservatively for longer life. Someone could mate a different engine with more power in front of the automatic. Getting it to shift right would be fun though.

Like I said before I just thought it was a cool FC.

I bet you could build an awesome buggy out of that thing. Even better yet, build a sick plastic body and put 54s on it.
