But for many people their church provides them their main social network. I'm sure this idea will appeal to many who are not religious but enjoy the community that churches provide.

I would rather meet people thru hobbies, not at a place asking for my money and time to do things I wouldnt do on my own but to each their own.

How is this any different then groups like the knights of Columbus or any other fraternal order of X. At least those groups came up with something original. "Let's copy something we constantly criticize, take what we don't like out of it, and call it our own" (yes I realize the irony)

I don't have any issue with them doing it. I just don't get why they would mimic something so many of them probably despise. Call it Hipster church or something.

First Church of Attention Seekers. There already are thousands of atheist churches/gathering places. Bars and strip clubs serve the purpose admirably.

I think it would be wrong to assume that just because someone does not believe in god that they would despise any community of like minded people that gathers for fellowship and mutual benefit.

The fact they don't believe is what going to hurt them...judgement is coming and only those that follow God stand a chance. Religion is just what this country needs to get back on track. Atheist are in the dark for GOd is the light

It would also probably be wrong to assume that all atheists are people that like to drink and watch strippers.

The Universalist Church has existed for a very long time as an Athiest Church.

Speaking of hypocracy. Ive never seen a church goer at a bar, or a church have a gambling type event (vegas night, bingo).

Not hypocrisy, sinners are not only allowed at Church they are invited.
As to Vegas bingo, the Churches Ive attended do not have them. Some Churches might be miss used.

I just dont understand how they will sustain a membership body or growth. Seems like a fad to me.

What do they talk about at "services?" Is it structured? Do they just badmouth religious people? What kind of music and why? Is there singing?

Seems like it would be hard to keep people showing up/donating becuase with a religious church you have the fear of God, and you better make it to church every sunday. But these people dont believe in God so they shouldnt have to go EVERY week or even every month.

It will be interesting to see how this will play out.

Doesn't affect me in any way, shape or form.

Don't care. Not worth wasting time thinking or worrying about.

I agree with this part for those that are religious. Too many hypocritical religious people these days. Starting with my own family members

As far as the non believers if a "church" will help them become a better person in life why not.

Too many religious and non religious people walking around like chickens on a farm with no real goal in life.......
