Default 24 states in 21 days.

i drove a truck for almost 10 years. always dedicated, home daily. mostly inside michigan.
i am out on the road now, and getting a crash course in over the road driving.
i did 24 different states in 21 days. many states i was in 2 or more times. wow, is all i can say!
i got to see some killer scenery! at times it was fun as hell. other times it completely sucked!
i think i was out a total of 27 days. this last week was all repeat states.
home for the next 5 days. after this i will be home weekly, for a couple days.

no tv, no internet the whole time.
the only thing i watched was the michigan notre dame game.

i was able to log in to gl4x4 a couple times on my trucks computer
it was a joke, took forever to do anything. crashed repeatedly, finally gave up.

i missed u guys!

Sound like your totally enjoying the job. I wanted to OTR trucking when I was a little kid and still would do it after my kid is out of school .

I don't drive truck, but my job has me on the road about as much. Difference is, I get to sleep at a Holiday Inn Express.

You need to invest in some entertainment for yourself or you will drive yourself nuts. When I was a dispatcher, I found the most comfortable and happy drivers were the ones who set their trucks up nice and had pretty much everything they needed, like for instance a laptop so they can Skype video chat people back at home. Same thing when my step dad was OTR, he had a small flatscreen with a dvd player, laptop, Verizon hotspot for internet(most of the time it was only when he couldn't find wifi). Its those little things that make the difference and keep you sane.

the job i hired in for is supposed to have me home every 5 or 6 days.
its midwest regional. the new boss asked if i could stay out for a while over the labor day holiday. wanting to impress the new boss, i said sure! i was ill prepared for a month on the road. i had a weeks worth of clothes, and a small bag of food. no tools, or anything else really. i lost 5 pounds, and slept alot! i guess midwest is michigan to texas, kansas to cape cod! lol

i must say west virginia, was an amazing state to see from the road!
i ran almost all back roads, very little interstate.

i went through the Appalachians, the alleghenies, the poconos, and the castskills, all on back roads, all in one day! it was stunning!
luckily, i was very light, so it was not that bad in a truck.

trying to pilot a 70ft long, 8.5ft wide vehicle through boston, was the worst thing i have ever had to do!!

I used to ride with my dad in the summer when drove OTR, we delivered to a shop in Brooklyn early one morning, had to wait for them to open. We walked down the street to a diner that was open. My dad talked to another driver that was delivering to the same place, he came in a different way and got stopped at a corner where he needed to make a left turn. Cars were parked bumper to bumper on all four corners. He called the police to see if the could get some cars moved. Long story short the cops sat there and watched as he dragged the trailer over three cars parked illegally.....after the cops ticketed the cars.

I know what you are saying but every company will have that same speech, doesn't matter who you work for. Truth is, that once your out there, your not really 100% when your coming home, its whats best for the company. And since telling the boss, no I cant isn't a really good option, you basicly have to take it, which is why I told my drivers time and time again to pack their truck like they will be gone for weeks because shit happens, trucks break down, loads need to be relayed and its all the luck of the draw.

I don't think I could ever be a professional driver like that but being able to see so much of the country would definitely be a bit of a perk in my book.

Any interesting pictures from your time on the road (hopefully you will have pulled off and parked before taking said pictures of course ).
