Default Structural integrity or skankery?

ALLENDALE, Mich. (WZZM) -- A landmark on Grand Valley State University's main campus has been removed, but is Miley Cyrus to blame?

Tuesday morning, a crew removed the giant pendulum sculpture from outside Padnos Hall of Science.

The steel ball, which hangs from a cable andresembles a wrecking ball, was installed in 1995. For years students had swung on it, but recently several students climbed on the ball naked, mimicking Miley Cyrus' video for "Wrecking Ball."

At least one student posted aVine video of his nudetribute to Cyrus.

Tim Thimmesch, the associate vice president of facilities services at GVSU said the sculpture was removed so structural integrity could be examined. "We've been reviewing this over the last couple of weeks, trying to decide whether we really need to look at structural integrity of the installation," said Thimmesch. "We decided to have the ball removed and put into storage for now."

A large group of students gathered outside Padnos Hall Tuesday night to protest the removal of the sculpture, changing "Wrecking ball! Wrecking ball!"

The story generated a lot of buzz on Twitter with the hash tags #ReinstallTheBall and #GVSUWreckingBall trending locally. The story has also captured national attention on sites like the Huffington Post, E! News, Gawker, and Buzzfeed.

I wouldn't swing on that thing. The cable was not too thick, and you've got concrete to meet your dome if it falls.

She'll be standing up at the wedding, between the two paler girls.

The high school that I graduated from

The Rotunda where it's housed:

has this 'world clock' that keeps time by the rotation of the earth. The 1st year it was installed, there was not a railing around it, and we use to swing on it all the time. Which was cool, until it ripped the mount out of the ceiling.

there was only 1 seat on her bus? i dont understand the big problem then....its a matter of perspective....she was in the front and back at the same time.....sounds like a situation that was blown out of proportion
