I'm not sure what the contractors name but there is one in Lapeer (not Genesee county) that is supposed to be the best around. I'll see if I can get the name for you. Does Dave Lamb do geothermal?

If they are the same people who had had "First Choice Home Improvement " out of Washington Twp steer clear of those scam artist fucks. They tried to stiff my boos out of 2 grand on a repair bill.

Dont wast your $$ on Geo! Its all a sales gimmick! Stick to normal HVAC stuff you will never save $$ with geo. I own a HVAC co! Would not sell the stuff its a rip off you are tradeing a gas bill for a electric bill. But if you do go down the path closed loop only. And no I dont go that far but if you need me to look some one good in the area who would love to spend a lot of your $$ let me know!

I have used these guys. Furnace, a/c and water heater in my last house, and furnace/ac maintainance now. I have been pretty happy with them. Not sure how they are with geothermal though.

For once I agree with you. My dad and many friends run them and love not cutting/stacking/feeding wood. You live in a low elevation area so it will be more efficient than our higher elevation/limestone ground. A good offset to the increased electrical is some roof mounted solar panels. They stay warm helping retain heat in your home and offset the increased electrical cost. I don't own an HVAC business , I've built a lot of off the grid hunting camps/cabins.

Not to mention nearly the entire island of Iceland that's been running on it for decades.

Sure, there are probably some areas in the country where geography and other options make geothermal no better, cost wise, than traditional units, but everybody I know in Michigan who has a geothermal set up would never go back.
