ive been on this forum quite a while... finally decided to make a build thread.

the jeep has gone from a clean rig to a beater. but she loves it. originally a VA jeep, so its super clean underneath. here are some mile marks from the years...

originally...

D30/8.25 with 3.07s
RE 4.5" super flex lift

judgement day...

as you can see... shes had kind of mutated over the years towards ugly, hence the name "chernobyl"

as she sits now:
RE 4.5" super flex kit
HD Offroad shackle relocation brackets
BPEs, RE monotubes
ZJ steering
hack and tapped 231
3.55 geared axles
aussie front, spartan rear, riddlers and lube lockers

hoping to get my custom knuckles on and gear my axles this winter.
stretch the front a tad
hydro assist
chromos

basically get it ready to handle 35s. it wont be wheeled for a while now that school is back in session.

love it, its been a very complete kit out of the box. my suggestions (but this also applies to almost any kit)

- add shackle relocation brackets. night and day difference on ride quality.
- SYE makes a ton of difference. dont even try to tell yourself a Tcase drop is enough.
- dont buy shocks for X amount of lift... if you can, install the parts, cycle the suspension, properly bump stop it, and buy shocks to fit your exact needs.
- drop brackets or long arms would deffinantly be a nice upgrade.

other than that... its everything you need. i even took my trackbar and made it double sheer simply by adding the RE double sheer bracket. ruff stuff heims are a direct fit.

the original inspiration and much of the detail comes from this thread:
Dana 34: D44 hubs & brakes on D30 Knuckle - NAXJA Forums -::- North American XJ Association

the idea is to get locking hubs, better brakes, better steering, and more width on the D30 at a fraction of the price of the WJ conversion or a locking hub conversion.

but for a quick overview...

machined the mating surface down to properly center the Ujoint

turned the spindle down to fit the center bore, leaving a lip for the caliper bracket

chop off the WJ brake bracketry

i welded up a couple holes so that i could properly clock the caliper bracket. in reality i only needed to weld up one. you dont need to do this to the spindle.

all together, bolts are just for mock up. going to go with 1/2" grade8.

i dont like the idea of all of the braking force being held in sheer by 3 hub bolts... so weld here

and here

other than the welding and drilling out the steering arms... its pretty much ready to be installed.
