Default A new S&W handgun.

Back on Memorial day weekend my S&W ultraweight 357 Mag blew the barrel out.

After spending over a month in the lab I just got a call from them wanting to provide me with a new handgun. The determined reason for the failure is an overtightened barrel, which they claim to have fixed. I have 2 issues with a replacement of the same model.
1) I'm not sure I really want the same potential problem. With that, warranty fixes get fixed so maybe I should be content.
2) They are back ordered 6 weeks. He has offered me another handgun if I so choose. Since this is one of S&W's more expensive handguns, it gives me a pretty wide range to choose from.

The problem for me is that I have not been in the market for an new handgun and don't know what I would really like. I've always been intrigued by 1911's but haven't wanted to throw out the coin. So, any suggestions? Obviously it has to be a S&W.

Wow did the recoil or anything hurt? That would be extremely scary.

I know there is a recall on them, but I love my XDS 9mm. One of the best shooting guns I've owned. If you want to go shooting and try it out give me a shout.

Jim was "nice" enough to let a good friend of his shoot the gun and that's when it came apart. On the third shot I believe. I was standing next closest to the shooter and it was pretty obvious something went wrong. No, he wasn't hurt. Just a bit of debris and powder flying about. I already told Jim I'd get a m&p series 9mm with the built in laser.

Did it suit your needs before it blew up? If so, I would ask for another one in 38+p and carry it every day. I agree with the above- I see little need for 357 in such a small light package. Glad you guys weren't keeelllleed. Nice of Smith to stand behind it tho- I would have expected them to blame the ammo and ignore you.

Pick up a S&W pro series 1911. For the money you have into the 357 it should be a wash for S&W PRO 1911. The S&W M&P PRO Core is a nice gun along with many other models, but once you shoot a poly gun it's only worth $500. Your revolver and a PRO 1911 will retain value much better..... I sold all my 357 S&W revolvers and purchased a 4" & 6" COLT 357... Haven't looked back either! Just my 2 cents ;)

Trade to keep or to resell . If you want another brand pistol trade for the hottest model for resale.
We cant keep the 1911's in stock and the customers that buy them really like them. On the other hand I sold my last revolver and miss having a simple hundgun to shoot.
Tough choice...

When they went to a crush fit vs pinned barrel this happens. I had a 3" 629 the barrel was turning with every shot.

I am a S&W fan. I want a 1911Sc Pro 3""

I really like my m&p .40 but I'm guessing it cost a bit less than that revolver.

Jim, take a look at the S&W Shield in 9mm, or .40 Cal.
I had a wheel gun that I carried daily, and moved on after a similar failure with it.
I now carry the Shield .40, it's just a fuzz smaller then the S&W Compact Line.
The Shield fits me nice.
Good Luck.

Ed, did you shoot the dog in the background?

Thanks for all the comments guys. I don't think I want another revolver. This was my first pistol & since shooting semi autos, I prefer them. I need to talk to S&W to find out how they do an alternate that would be of a lesser value. It makes me wonder if I could get 2 $500 guns in place of the single one of double the value???

If I opt for something different, how easy is it to sell 38 sp ammo? I have quite a bit.

my uncle had the same problem with his 629 with an 8" barrel.

S&W fixed it for free.

For you, I'll make you a hell of a deal. Double the going rate sounds about right.
